PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question.   OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week.   Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback.   We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery.   We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! RARE "ACID ARCHIVES" ...original mid '70s PRIVATE PRESSING rarity that has been in popular demand in the last few years ... Kicking off with Rob's Take My Love and ending with Tony and Nick's Love You Forever, the album is a lost and almost forgotten power pop classic. In the vein of Big Star and Badfinger, with the Beatles thrown in for good measure. As was the case with all the crucial proto-power pop bands of the '70s, this trio were clearly groomed on the Beatles, particularly Paul McCartney's contributions. Furthermore, Hollins Ferry wear a myriad of period influences on their collective sleeve, including Emitt Rhodes, Badfinger, and Big Star circa Radio City. We'll decide not to be a spoiler, so will instead let you play "spot the influence" on a song-by-song basis at your leisure, but there are several highlights lurking in the grooves here including "Surprise," '"Too Bad About Sorrows," and the sublime opener "Take My Love." Though not a through-and-through goldmine, this album is special enough to warrant a place in any worthy collection...

Background
Here's a record that's finally receiving some well deserved attention from collectors and as sure as the sun rises is becoming increasingly expensive. Baltimore, Maryland's Hollins Ferry released just one record of Beatles and Badfinger influenced power pop steering clear of punk influences. Like similar American bands who wished they were born in Liverpool (Jade, Ol' Paint, Rain and more importantly Big Star), Hollins Ferry designed their sound following The Beatles bigger than Jesus model while blending some good old Yankee spice in the mix. The band's history is a something of a mystery; i.e. nothing on the net but we do know guitarist Rob Fahey went on to head up The Ravyns releasing one decent album and scored a spot on the 'Fastimes At Ridgemont High' soundtrack.

The Songs
While not as immediate as a Badfinger album (what is?), Hollins Ferry offer up a pleasant LP that requires a few plays before the 'Beatle-ly' charms sink in. Self produced, the record runs the gamut of up tempo rockers and slower numbers. Classic Mersey is the main influence wit echoes of U.S. bands America as well as Beau Brummels and Hollins Ferry were not afraid of using keyboards and various studio techniques to beef up what is essentially guitar based pop. Highlights include the catchy to a fault opener 'Take My Love' including well placed hand claps over a splendid hook and the McCartneyesque 'Downtown Menagerie' with lyrical references covering everything from church bells and English doves to 'milkmen doing their route'. Delightful stuff and very 'Penny Lane'! Side two's 'Morning Breezes' is an achingly beautiful ballad with dramatic keys and a lilting melody line while 'Love You Forever' takes the John Lennon sound to new heights leaving no doubt where the band's heart was.
