Very scarce 3-LP BOX SET from 35 years ago as a limited French only issue containing ALL "rockers" by the BEATLES...no melodic love songs here...but rather The BEATLES in their rave-up British Invasion force...

The music is phenomenal. The Beatles’ most hard rocking tunes all put together in one nifty, three record BOX set. It opens with the screamer “Twist and Shout” where Lennon absolutely tears his vocal cords to shreds...Do you wanna rock? Then you gotta rock with Rock ‘n’ Roll Music!

After the brilliant opener, “Twist and Shout” we get the Beatles’ throwback to the British Invasion onslasught of the early 60’s – “I Saw Her Standing There.” This high-energy track will probably get you on your feet in seconds. Paul’s gotta a great rock and roll voice. But the next song, “You Can’t Do That” is all Lennon. It’s his scorcher that’s heavy on cowbell. “I Wanna Be Your Man” is one of the favorite Beatles songs. It’s a rock and roll rave-up sung by Ringo. It’s a very simple track but very fun. Now we get to the first B-side. The B-sides and rarities are what make Rock ‘n’ Roll Music a real treat. “I Call Your Name” is the first one. It’s a pretty straightforward song that makes good use of cowbell. “Boys” is a cover of a song originally sung by girls. According to Paul, you didn’t really give a hoot back then about whether you were singing about girls or boys. Yet this song, sung by Ringo, has a few little changes to make it gender appropriate. It’s still a really fun song. Closing side A is another rarity, the brilliant “Long Tally Sally.” This is Paul’s turn to shred his vocal cords. He gives one of his best performances.

Side B opens with a cover of “Rock and Roll Music.” Most fans love Lennon’s vocals on this. “Slow Down” is a rock and roll classic done by the Beatles. Lennon can really sing these songs. “Kansas City/Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey” is a medley also done by Little Richard. Some much prefer “Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey” to “Kansas City”. “Money (That’s What I Want)” is a brilliant song. “Money” is followed up by another of the favorite tracks, the raw, searing, scorching “Bad Boy.” John really gives his vocals a beat-up on this one, more so than “Twist and Shout.” This is a top 20 Beatles song for some. “Matchbox” is a Carl Perkins tune that Ringo sang. It’s another rock and roll standard done really well by Ringo. Finishing up side B is “Roll Over Beethoven” as sung by George. George has such a great voice and his guitar playing is phenomenal.

“Dizzy Miss Lizzie” kicks side C off with a bang. John handles vocal duties on this one also and he does a nice job. “Any Time At All” was Lennon’s attempt to re-write the brilliant “It Won’t Be Long.” “Any Time At All’s” chorus is great and John gives a really nice vocal performance, which is becoming a trait of this album. “Drive My Car” is similar to “You Can’t Do That.” Splendid and timeless. “Everybody’s Trying To Be My Baby”  Lennon’s vocals aren’t that interesting. This is followed up by the awesome “The Night Before.” One fan said he wasn’t sure why this is on Rock ‘n’ Roll Music. Nevertheless, it’s a great song. “The Night Before” is followed up by some real rock and roll – “I’m Down.” This is one of the rarities that are spread around the album. It’s also brilliant. Paul really shows off his great rock and roll voice. A lot of people think of him as the balladeer, but he brought some of the hardest rocking – “I’m Down”, “Helter Skelter” etc. As if it hasn’t already been proven, John can rock too. “Revolution” not only has that screeching guitar, but it also has Lennon screaming his vocal cords away.

The wild rocker, “Back In The U.S.S.R.” kicks off side 4. This all out rock song is very fun with cool lyrics. “Helter Skelter” might just be the first Beatles heavy-metal song!  “Taxman” is George Harrison’s only composition on the album and it’s also brilliant. The lyrics are brilliant. The music is brillaint. The bassline and guitar riff and the drums are all so great. “Got To Get You Into My Life” is also brilliant. Love the sailing horns and Paul’s great vocals. “Hey Bulldog” another favorite song on the album.  “Birthday” is a real rocker too. That guitar riff is phenomenal and Ringo does some great drumming. “Get Back” is the Beatles’ swan song. It’s their last song on their last album. The song is very bluesy. George has a great guitar solo. Paul’s singing and his lyrics are wonderful, though the lyrics are rather odd. And Ringo keeps the whole thing together with his simple but effective drumming. For a final song, this works perfectly. 

CONDITION: The box set is still strong with no split seams, just some small light shelf wear, overall VG+(+) and still a worthy keeper collectible.

The 3 vinyl records, all six sides, are clean and shiny "M-" top level clean...
