Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. So, now our travel begins from Zibabwe ....with Assagai
Assagai was an Afro-Beat group consisting of South Africans and Nigerians that recorded in England. What we like best about their sound is that they had concise, well structured songs unlike some Afro-Beat groups that composed epic tracks that devolved into extended jam sessions. Telephone Girl makes an excellent beginning with two full measures of open drums before short horn stabs come in on the one. Eventually the vocals and the rest of the band join in. That’s followed by a nice instrumental entitled Akasa that also features an Afro-Beat drum break. The equally funky Cocoa follows. The rest of the album is more Afro-Beat oriented with the laid back Irin Ajolawa and Ayieo comparing well with the more upbeat Beka
The original band consisted of five members, three from South Africa and two from Nigeria: drummer Louis Moholo, trumpeter/flautist Mongezi Feza, alto saxophonist Dudu Pukwana, tenor saxophonist Bizo Muggikana, and guitarist/bassist Fred Coker — the latter, according to Rob Fitzpatrick in The Guardian, "helped guide Assagai into position as the only real West African competition to the super-star firepower of Ghana's Osibisa" before Coker left Assagai to replace Spartacus R in Osibisa. Keyboardist Alan Gowen and percussionist Jamie Muir were also briefly members (1971-72).
The band recorded for the British label Vertigo Records, and are thought to be "the only African or 'Black' band ever signed" by the label.
Assagai's self-titled debut album was released in 1971; among the African musicians who played with the group on the recording were members of JADE WARRIOR.

CONDITION: The cover: rated: VG++ (light wear starting) gatefold cover with promotional song titles sticker on inside of gatefold. There are no delete marks, no split seams, no bends, and no writing ...
The vinyl: Rated: VG, unfortunately played and with moderate wear; visual there are stray scuffs and light scratches so plays with some ticks along the way. Otherwise no jumps or sticks and aside from light surface here and there much of the album plays with no problems, ultimately enjoyable. It's very rare and remains the reason as to why it's here for offers. Both VERTIGO SWIRL labels are clean
