First released in 1972, 'Mosaic of Colour' is Rahbani at his most globally significant, boundary-pushing and forward-thinking, exploring a multitude of instruments and influences from both Arabic and Western cultures. It's not just a thing of beauty, either - it's a rare thing of beauty that should be savoured and cherished, so think yourself lucky if it's on the shelves already. The youngest of the Rahbani Brothers (also comprising Assi and Mansour), this record gives an insight into the now 82-year-old Lebanese author, conductor, arranger and producer as he was in his early-30s, which, along with the fact this was his solo debut, makes the maturity of 'Mosaic' even more remarkable (standing up as it does to anything he has given us since). A bold and beautiful journey through lush, exotic soundscapes that everyone needs to take.
