Ann Arbor is a consistent hotbed of musical talent. The suburban Michigan town, less than 50 miles from central Detroit, has nurtured a litany of great live acts, DJs and producers, with venues like The Ark considered among the most important in the world (in that particular case, among fans of folk and roots). As such, it's never a surprise to discover a great new band that come from the enclave. Not that Racing Mount Pleasant are new. At all, really. Formed in 2019 under the name Kingfisher, they quickly gained attention as bright young things of chamber pop and art rock-ish alt-folk kind of stuff. Not to mention their unique live shows - each usually tailored to the setting. Switching to Racing Mount Pleasant for their second album, it's one that fans of Bon Iver and Black Country should find easy to get along with.
