Quicksand by Kalmar Counts Triway Records 7" 45 Surf MK Ultra Rare!!!

For your consideration, one extremely rare copy of "Quicksand" b/w "The Last Sunrise" on Triway Records 056 in fair to good condition, circa late 1961. This record of 2 instrumental tracks, which I bought in the early 60"s might be classified as surf rock, or a little like The Ventures.  Twangy guitar riffs over surf rhythms with some strange wood based sound going on in the background (code?) that reminds me of the creaky sound used in Bobby "Boris" Pickett's "Monster Mash."  Side A has a very small chip at edge (between 1 o'clock and 2 o'clock in the first photo) that doesn't effect automatic play. The record plays well, very little surface noise (sounds better than it looks). It seems this is the only copy of this record available for sale in the world at this time.  A must have at any cost for Surf music collectors.  Appears to have charted in Hartford, Ct. for 2 weeks (#42 up to #41) in the fall of 1961, suggesting it could be an east coast production. 

Here's where it gets interesting: The rumor (or myth if you prefer) is that the record contained codes or links to the CIA's early mind control experiments, MK Ultra and that it contains backward masking which caused varieties of strange results in test subjects ... those listening to the record.  I'm wondering if this has  anything to do with that strange creepy wood sound. To test the effects of the experiment, the record was released in selected market areas on an  unsuspecting public.  They noticed better results in the areas closest to radio stations that took a chance and played the record. Unfortunately, it was difficult to track the actual victims (the radio listeners and the buyers of this record).  They really could have used the RFID chip back then.  The rumor further suggests that more mind altering codes come from paying side 2 (The Last Sunrise) directly after playing side one, completing the code sequence to produce the desired effect.  The radio stations never played the B side.  Buyers of the record did.  The chilling rumor was said to have stemmed from a magazine article published in the late sixties/early seventies in one of those Saga type men's adventure magazines.  The article never said what the actual, desired results of the experiment were (only mentioning it was "classified") , so that remains an even bigger mystery.   It is further rumored that all references to this record were meticulously eliminated from the internet. And that all members of the band, the studio engineer and the producer have all vanished. And that Triway Records (and references to all 55 numbered titles that preceded this record, never really existed (or so they may want you to think).  No references to music publisher Eric Lowner exist. It's like all references to this record or it's producers, except maybe in some print versions, have been wiped from memory.  For evaluation purposes, I did play side one (Quicksand) and I seem to be ok. All references to the myth itself have been eliminated.  I can't say I'd recommend the winner of this auction plays side two of this record as I am still skeptical myself.  With my limited investigative, journalistic skills, I did do a search of the publisher and the group on ASCAP, the performing rights organization listed on the record and came up empty with zero results for the group and publisher.  Again, it was like all references to the Kalmar Counts, Triway Records and Eric Lowner have been erased ... like they never existed.  Like Bob Lazar never existed.  But if this auction should suddenly be ended and all traces to it and it's seller are eliminated, then you are free to draw your own conclusions from all this. For many reasons, which I'm sure you can understand by now, I will not accept returns or issue refund on this item.  It is understood that the Seller, nor eBay will not be held liable or responsible for whatever the desired (or undesired) effect of said code is or can be. I wouldn't be surprised if CIA bid snipers have their eye on it right now as you read this (you might not want to click on this item too many times as they are probably doing a backtrace to see who is looking at this item, and wondering why they are interested in this record.  I've tried to make the pictures large enough to see all details.

Legends, myths and rumors aside, this is still a rare record.  Been watching it here on the bay for years and no copies have ever been posted.  A missing link in any complete surf rock record collection.
