A Kind Of Magic Very Rare Orange Vinyl LP (New Zealand) 1986

This now rare and highly collectable limited edition is in wonderful condition and plays to a standard that is so rarely heard today.  It is pressed on translucent bright orange vinyl and is visually stunning to say the least.  The previous owner assured me that it had never been played before and there is no spindle wear supporting that view.  The immaculate playback also confirms it!

This is as visually perfect as you could find.  There is no spindle wear and no hairlines, scratches or marks of any kind.  It has a stunning bright glossy sheen and is 'as new' visually as when first released in '86.  This limited edition is so rarely seen in this condition today and can only go up in value considering its rarity and 'high end' audio.  It is pristine and the labels and run out grooves are also in immaculate condition.

Play grading

'One Vision' plays with remarkable clarity from the very first groove.  With only one dust tick on the intro the remainder plays with exceptional quality and there is no interference whatsoever.  Even the quiet fade out plays perfectly and this is without doubt a Mint- start to this rare album.  I am delighted to say 'A Kind Of Magic' is of the same exacting standard and there is no 'background' at all.  The playback is Mint if I'm honest and you cannot fail but be impressed by the stunning quality on offer here. As any Queen fan knows 'One Year Of Love' will often play with some interference on the standard vinyl version being a relatively quiet track but the clarity and depth here is sublime and it is clear that this this record has never been played before.  There is not even a single dust tick on the fade out!  'Pain Is So Close To Pleasure' and 'Friends Will Be Friends' end the side with immaculate audio with only one mega light static tick on the fade out of the final track.

'Who Wants To Live Forever' on S2 is a track that is often beset with problems on the standard vinyl.  I am pleased to say the intro plays with great clarity and only a minimal amount of light static on Brian's vocal that is totally non-intrusive.  It really is very minimal!  As soon as Freddie's vocal comes in the playback is absolutely stunning and there is no interference at all.  This is such an impressive version and even the quiet orchestral ending plays with superb clarity and not one single click or pop and no static or crackle either.  A breathtaking version and one of the 'cleanest' I have ever heard and it is so obvious this record has never been played before.  'Gimme The Prize' impresses from the word go and for fear of repeating myself is the strongest and most powerful version I have ever heard.  There is no interference and rarely no distortion.  'Don't Lose Your Head' is almost 'as new' with only one static tick on the fade out, sheer perfection otherwise!  'Princes Of The Universe' ends the album in fine style with stunning audio throughout.  So often final tracks will have some distortion but that is certainly not the case here.  This is the most 'complete' version I have ever heard and incredibly there is no distortion at all.  A stunning listen from start to finish.

In summary this rare and highly sought after album plays with a clarity and warmth that you so rarely find today.  As I said the previous owner never played it and that it patently obvious now that that I have listened to every second of it.  Yes a minimal amount of light static on the 'Who Wants To Live Forever' intro but is still plays far better than practically all other versions I have heard.  Plus it is nigh on impossible to find a vinyl playing with mint precision throughout even an unplayed one.  The sonic quality could not be any better and any avid Queen collector would be extremely impressed with the audio on offer here.

The Gatefold

The glossy gatefold is in superb condition with hardly any shelf wear and it has retained its strong and vibrant colours extremely well.  The edges and wide have no marking or rubbing and there is barely any corner wear either, just mega small rubs literally on the tip of each corner.  The opening edge is also in sublime condition with no handling wear whatsoever, another sign that the vinyl has hardly ever been removed from the cover.  The front cover is beautifully clean with no markings or scratches and has just the one tiny crease near the top edge (barely visible!) and a couple of very small faint creases next to the spine.  The back cover has no faults at all and the inside of the gatefold is nigh on perfect with only one faint crease next to the bottom of the spine.  Overall this is a fantastic version of this cover that has only superficial wear, nothing major at all, it is visually stunning.  It is also worth noting that these NZ coloured vinyl pressings used the same EU 3509 covers as per the standard vinyl releases. 

Lyric Inner

The original inner is in excellent condition although there is one small split on the bottom edge.  Apart from that it is very clean with no marking or creasing and only a tiny amount of corner wear.

The Labels

They are both in immaculate condition and look 'as new'.  There is no spindle wear at all and no marking either.  They could not look any better!  Fantastic examples!
