It would appear that there's not a lot Suzi Quatro can't do. A singer, bassist, DJ, and actress, Quatro has been an unrelenting ball of energy that shows no sign of burning out anytime soon. This is the third album she has made with her son, LR Tuckey, and it knows exactly what it has to do - rock out like everybody's watching. Kicking off with the title track, there's no doubt that's exactly what Quatro intends. A Southern-flavoured rock 'n' roll tune, the pedal is firmly nailed to the floor. It's not just a big, dumb rock song though; there's a sense of history wrapped up in those riffs and sassy vocals. The refrain of "the girl can't help it" alludes to the 1958 movie of the same name, which had a significant effect on the world of rock and roll with Little Richard, Gene Vincent and more on its soundtrack. There are elements of reflection across the album, not least 'Choose Yourself', which looks back on Quatro's life. This is no maudlin ballad, however, but a tale of self-belief and determination. Life is, as she points out, too short, so trust in yourself. It's this kind of drive that finds her kicking a partner out on 'Here's Ya Boots', suggesting she's still got plenty of attitude and is most definitely not to be messed with. Freedom might not hit the highs of classics like 'Devil Gate Drive' or 'Can The Can', but there's plenty to suggest that Quatro is not about to slow down or stop rocking anytime soon.
