Programmer's Digest was an unusual vinyl LP magazine, part print, part audio targeted for radio broadcast professionals during the early 1970s. "Broadcasting's First Audio Publication." It was short-lived, published for just a few years between 1972-1975. Issues (albums) were originally distributed to radio stations, programmers and radio personalities on a subscription basis, like a print magazine, and were not available in stores. The audio portion - the 12" 33 1/3 rpm vinyl LPs - contained air-checks, jingles, and so forth.
October 8, 1973 the highlight of which is several items pertaining to the late Jim Croce, who tragically passed away in a plane crash the previous month on September 20, 1973 in Natchitoches, Louisiana. First is what turned out to be his last print interview, which was conducted by then Northwestern State University senior Melanie Babina for the school newspaper just before Croce gave a 40 minute concert at the school. One hour later Croce died in the crash of their twin engine Beechcraft plane. A photo of the crashed airplane also appears with the interview. The vinyl LP includes an approximately 5 minute audio interview with Croce conducted a short time before his death by WMAK, Nashville DJ Coyote McCloud. Finally, a picture from Croce's final performance appears on the cover of the LP.
