Description:
A fascinating, high-grade transitional artifact that seamlessly pairs a genuine 1978 first-edition retail jacket with a pristine, early-generation analog vinyl pressing from the close of the decade. The outer sleeve is a structurally complete, original 1978 US First Pressing manufactured for Warner Bros. Records. This iconic jacket features a clean, un-barcoded back cover proudly displaying the original company headquarters addresses: "3300 Warner Blvd., Burbank, Calif. 91510 and 3 East 54th Street, New York, New York 10022." The cleanly typeset spine reads top-to-bottom: "BSK 3150 PRINCE/FOR YOU ALL RIGHTS RESERVED UNAUTHORIZED DUPLICATIONS IS A VIOLATION OF APPLICABLE LAWS. ℗ 1978 WARNER BROS. RECORDS INC. • PRINTED IN USA". The top-left corner features a narrow warehouse "saw cut" or "notch" through the jacket, structurally identifying it as a premium distributor-level overstock item from the early 1980s.
Contained inside is the immaculate vinyl disc and the updated 1979 heavy-cardstock inner sleeve. The front of the inner sleeve displays the legendary "Triple Prince" photography featuring the artist sitting on a bed with a guitar flanked by two double-exposed, transparent silhouettes, while the top of the back sleeve bears his heartfelt dedication: "All of this and more is for you. With Love, sincerity and deepest care, my life with you I share.*” The vinyl itself is dressed in the famous Burbank "Palm Trees against blue sky" labels, and typeset with the 1979-standard transitional rim text: "Warner Bros. Records Inc. • a subsidiary and licensee of Warner Bros. Inc. • 3300 Warner Blvd., Burbank, Calif. 91510 • a Warner Communications Company • W (logo) • Made in U.S.A." The center label features a distinct, factory-machine-tooled 1.5-inch inner ring indentation, proving it was pressed at the Capitol Records Pressing Plant in Los Angeles, California using the very first, unrevised 1978 master plates (LW2). Widely celebrated as a purist "player's copy," this unique assembly unites the uncompromised, punchier bass dynamics of the raw April 1978 stereo mix with the beautifully expanded 1979 visual presentation.
