Prime Records 78 RPM Reissue - Gene Chandler / The Ronettes

This record is part of a collection of Prime reissues that I purchased from the estate of a jukebox collector.  I purchased them even though they’re in questionable condition, because I noticed that new copies are quite expensive, and figured another jukebox aficionado may be interested in them.  When I found them, they were all together in a box addressed to the former owner.  I suspect he purchased them (possibly on eBay) intending to clean them up and use them in one of his jukeboxes, but never got around to it.  I haven’t done anything to clean them, except carefully wipe them with a dry record cloth, and place them in new white paper sleeves and poly outer sleeves.

Nearly all the records from the collection are in rough condition.  They all have labels that are stained and deteriorating, and have spots of some white substance on the vinyl surface.  I’m not sure what the substance is, but suspect it may be bits of the label.  I tried rubbing a couple spots on areas inside the playing grooves on one the records with my fingernail, and most of each spot came off easily.  More cleaning will be needed to try and remove them entirely.

I considered doing a more complete cleaning before listing them, but decided it would be better to leave it to someone with more expertise.  I haven’t play tested them, because I don’t have a turntable and cartridge that are suitable for 78 rpm.

This condition of this particular record is typical of the collection.  If you’re looking for a pristine copy, please look elsewhere.  The labels are stained and damaged.  There are some white spots on the playing surface and the inner groove.  The playing surface may also have other imperfections.  It’s hard for me to say how much a thorough cleaning would improve this record.  I suspect it would help quite a lot, but can’t be certain.  Sold as is.
