This is really off the beaten path... but I love it. I’ve been a huge fan of the PoTA series every since seeing it on television in the early 70’s. I’ve seen each move so many times, that when I listen to this soundtrack, I can picture what is happening on the screen. Beyond that, I think it’s some pretty cuting edge music with elements of ambient and some really impressive percussion. Even if you don’t like PoTA, check this out.

AMG: Jerry Goldsmith’s eerie, percussive, occasionally atonal score for the original 1968 Planet of the Apes is one of his best in a long career filled with great soundtracks (for not-always-as-great films). It manages to pull off the tricky feat of looking backward to a primitive past and forward to an apocalyptic future without sounding schizophrenic.
