Description

Pink Floyd - The First XI Boxed Set

This is a very rare item. Only 1,000 copies of The First XI were issued, and I doubt if many have survived the last 25 years in as good a condition as this set. Having been a Pink Floyd fan since their first single, I bought this as an extravagant birthday treat for myself when it was released in 1979, even though I already owned every LP in the set. All the disks are in virtually mint condition having only ever been played twice, once to check for any faults when they were bought, and again to check them for this auction.

The sleeves have crisp clean corners and spines and there are virtually no marks, creases, tears etc. Those that do exist are detailed in the descriptions of the individual albums. The spines of the gatefold covers are still rigid and retain their "spring". A detailed description of each of the 11 albums in the set is given below.

Please Note :-
I don't believe in trying to hide or disguise faults in anything I sell on Ebay. Please look at my page for more info about this. Because of the potential value and shipping costs of this item, I don't want the successful bidder to have any opportunity to say that what they receive is not what I am describing here. Some of the sleeves have minor faults caused when various people have looked at them over the years. Each of these faults is fully described below, with photographs where possible.

Each disk was checked for faults when I bought the set. Because of my circumstances at the time (working in a record shop), if I discovered any clicks, crackle, jumps etc. when I checked them, I was able to compare each disk with copies from other sets in the store and select the best copy. No standard LP is ever perfect, and in some cases, every copy of a particular album had exactly the same surface noise in exactly the same place, as did the copies that were on sale as regular individual back-catalogue copies. One thing I did discover, was that every picture disk in every set had some sort of tear or crease in the picture. I returned my copies to EMI and had them replaced by much better (although still not absolutely perfect) copies. I therefore ensured that this set was the best quality that I was able to buy.

Over the years, a couple of the disks have acquired minor marks (I don't know how) and these are detailed in the individual descriptions.

If you want to know anything more about this set, please feel free to e-mail me. I'm more than happy to e-mail better quality photos than it is possible to display here.

The First XI (July 1979)
Catalogue Number - Harvest Records - PF11

This is a limited edition box set of the first eleven Pink Floyd albums. Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here are picture discs which (to the best of my knowledge) were only available as part of this set. The black box has a textured leather effect cover with the title and a heartbeat line on the front and side.

There is minimal wear at the corners of the box. Over the years, the base has acquired a few minor scuff marks from occasions when admirers have slid it off and on the shelf where it was stored (see photos).

The Piper at the Gates of Dawn (August 1967)

The top edges of the front and back of the cover are not correctly aligned with each other, and there is also a tiny area at the top right of the back, where the surface layer of the card is damaged (possibly caused by the removal of excess adhesive). This is one detail I missed when I checked them at purchase (see photos). The disk has no faults.
