Description

Rare blues 78 rpm record from Georgia 12 string bluesman, Willie Baker. Here under the pseudonym of Steamboat Bill on Champion 15674. Sweet Patunie Blues was originally released as the A-side of GENNETT 6751; No No Blues was originally issued as B-side of GENNETT 6766. Both sides recorded in early 1929 in Richmond, Indiana; this CHAMPION issue is likely from 1930 or 1931. The pseudonym and mismatched sides an attempt to skirt royalties during the depth of the depression. These sides were also issued contemporaneously on the Supertone label as "Willie Jones".

Record is in pretty excellent condition. Some light rubbing and scuffing overall; B-side has a shallow though menacing looking scratch and a tiny edge chip not into grooves. Faint wear and small tear to one label. Period pressing also has some tiny blisters or pox throughout. None of these affect play very much. Record visibly grades V+ or better but play grades a solid E-; faint background and loud audible recording. No loud ticks or skips just solid enjoyable play. Awesome 12 string guitar blues and rare as hens teeth. See photos for more details.  20+ years experience shipping 78s; I never get complaints! Double boxed anyway!
