One of only 300 original lps' privately pressed by Perry Leopold,"Experiment In Metaphysics" defines the genre. Recorded and mastered in the basement recording studio of a shoe repair shop in Phila. in 1970, during one incredible evening of altered and accentuated creativity, then pressed at Disc Makers, Phila. in a very limited quantity, this is an incredible recording by the master of the genre. With its haunting melodies, dark, brooding, moody lyrics, and accompanied by the inspired finger picking styles of Perry Leopold on his two, even then, vintage Martin guitars. This album is enduring and is the benchmark for independent artists and musicians that produce their own projects.
In June 1970, he recorded the Experiment in Metaphysics LP, which was printed in a single run of 300 copies. Drawing on all of his influences, the album was an accomplished and unique piece of progressive folk with political overtones. In countercultural fashion, most of the 300 albums pressed were given away on a Philadelphia street corner in one afternoon in August 1970, making it a very rare (and subsequently sought after) artifact.
Cleaning out my parents garage in eastern Pennsylvania of a record collection they purchased and I came across this excellent copy of this iconic album. This almost was donated to Goodwill! I’ve decided to offer it up to collectors who have been missing this gem from their collection.
I have not played it (partially out of fear) so I can’t say how it sounds, could use a good cleaning but it has very few scratches. Looks like it was only played a few times. The record jacket has some edge wear, slight notch and it does not have the sticker as seen on other copies. Shipping to continental US only. Insurance will be purchased and signature required. No returns.
