One of the harder to find Vertigo albums, not the best copy I’ve had but it’ll certainly do until that mintish one comes along.

Sleeve:

Notoriously delicate gatefold design with the front flap cut into three strips, it’s unusual to find all three still attached without any tape holding them on, but here’s a nicish copy.

The front sleeve is in pretty decent shape. It’s very unusual to find a copy with all three strips still attached to the spine without any tapeor the other common way to find this is with the 3 strips taped together to make one front sleeve but this one is as it should be. It’s clean and though it’s obvious that it has been handled there are no tears, writing or creases anywhere, when placed on a flat surface the flaps fit together snugly, as said earlier not the best copy I’ve seen but it’s a long way from being the worst.

The rear sleeve is very clean with no tears, creases or writing, it does have just the very beginning of ringwear at the top and bottom but if you store it properly then this will not get any worse.

Inside the gatefold, the right hand side which forms the pocket where the record sits is fine, clean and undamaged. The other side is the back of the flaps which form the front sleeve and as with the front they are clean and still fully attached.

A little bit of wear to the spine is inevitable given the fragile nature of those flaps but it’s still wide and all of the writing is clearly readable.

The top seam is very slightly worn, nothing serious..

The bottom seam is also slightly worn.

Record:

It’s an odd one this because usually the case with this album is that the record itself is fine but the sleeve’s trashed, this one the sleeve is fine and the record while it’s a long way from being trashed is in worse condition than the sleeve. The vinyl is very clean but it has been played a lot and under normal light looks tired, there are a lot of very light hairline marks which are visible in normal light but no deep scratches or anything else that affects the playback. Under a harsh lamp there are more hairline marks revealed but again nothing deep.

The two labels are in fine condition, the spiral side is very clean with no writing, tears or stickers anywhere, the other side with the writing has some small dirty marks, nothing serious just 35 years of being handled, no tears or writing or stickers and all of the writing is clearly readable. The matrix numbers stamped into the dead wax are 6360032 1Y1 and 2Y1.

When played the record is actually a lot better than it’s visual appearance would suggest. The sound is still clean and clear right across the full dynamic range and despite it’s rather tired appearance there is no sign of any groovewear or distortion and the jazzy noodling of the guitar is showcased well, bass is deep and full. The only surface noise I noticed for the full length of the record was a couple of low level clicks on the first track which are below the level of the music and thus don’t spoil your enjoyment too much, there is the odd very light crackle between tracks but only very sporadically and certainly nothing like the log fire effect I was expecting when I first played this. On the whole the sound plays close to a good EX.

I thought a lot before putting this on one ebay, I don’t usually list albums in this condition, they usually just go on my normal sales lists at set prices, but this one while it isn’t the best visually, I’ve played several times before deciding to offer it, when I did play it I found nothing spoiling my enjoyment, apart from the music that is - this is highly over-rated musically!- so I’ve decided to give it a go with a full guarantee if the buyer doesn’t agree with the condition when played and after reading back what I’ve written I hope I haven’t put people off too much because this really does play fine!
