PYRAMID Records 3093-4
Original 1974 issue Stereo LP
FIRST PRESSING • PRIVATE ISSUE Original BLUE Cover • 1st Address

VINYL is VG++
High Gloss Vinyl shows only a very few tiny surface scuffs under hard bright light that are almost entirely inaudible. One smaller-than-pea-size mark at beginning of side one may sound, but otherwise remarkably clear, clean sound throughout. Dark Blue Labels with metallic silver text are overall very clean; Side one label has thin bit of wear at right edge, otherwise exceptionally clean; Side two label has a darker blue spot where a sticker was removed. NO residue, remnants, pull, tear or any other effects there, just a slightly darker color than the surrounding blue background. SEE PHOTOS.
.
COVER is VG-
As with all original pressings of this LP, the front and back outer cover slicks show the typical rippling resulting from the collective's own DIY cover construction. The actual cover boards are not affected and are straight and firm. Some light wear near top / bottom edges; Back also shows some scattered age spotting and discoloration. Seams and spine show light wear but NO splits. SEE PHOTOS.

*Please excuse any 'grainy' look to pictures (...from low-light photos).

STRICT CONSERVATIVE GOLDMINE GRADING
NM / EX(VG++) / VG+ / VG / VG-
Mega-Rare GRAIL Private Spiritual Black African Jazz 1974 vinyl LP, featuring a unique vision of African, Soul and Free Jazz. First Edition release on their own Pyramid Records. .
“Recorded March 1974 and features a wide array of esoteric African instruments including Ugandan Harp, Gogi and Balafon. Perhaps best known for the expansive "Nsorama (The Stars)" (18 minutes, on side 2) a seminal work of Spiritual Jazz"
. This original issue LP had only a single, very limited run in this first pressing, being sold only at concerts out of the trunks of their cars. Less than 300 pressed in this original 1974 issue.
Highly regarded by collectors - when found consistently fetching incredibly large sums of money.
These show up maybe once a year (last one on eBay was a Sept. 2025 auction, in lesser condition and sold for well over $600).

Original FIRST (OHIO) Address on COVER and LABELS. PYRAMID RECORDS
405 1/2 W. North College Street
YELLOW SPRINGS, OHIO 45387
The group moved to San Francisco soon afterwards and subsequent pressings have San Francisco addresses on back cover with Oakland Addresses on labels. most of those are black and white covers; these also were made in small numbers and are also collectible but not near so as the original pressing. * DISCOGS erroneously lists the Black cover / San Francisco pressing as a 1974 pressing. That is incorrect and impossible as the group did not leave Ohio for San Francisco until 1976.
FIRST PRESSING MATRIX NUMBERS (etched)
SIDE ONE: PR-30934-1   Jim SIDE TWO: PR-30934-2   Jim ...the "Jim" is a stylized Glyph with what looks something like a big J - and a small scrawled im attached. __________________________________________________________________________________

Spiritual Afro-jazz ensemble The Pyramids were a criminally under-recognized spiritual jazz collective, birthed at the dawn of the 1970s in Ohio, in 1971 while the members were attending Antioch College in Ohio. Inspired by such artists as Sun Ra and Cecil Taylor, (who taught at Antioch during the '70s), the Pyramids mixed in African rhythms, free jazz, and even a touch of psychedelic soul.
