Melbourne rock n' roll and power pop three-piece The Prize appear to be on the cusp of much bigger things with their debut album. And for those backing this race horse early they've got a limited edition version with strictly 100 available so it's potentially a future collectible. The Prize's strength comes in their ability to weave the best bits of new wave and pop punk in with classic rock. They're not a re-run of what happened in the 70s, but rather a patchwork of different things they like from an array of rock subgenres. The thing that appears to hold it all together is this bravado and excitement that's a beautiful antithesis to the somber pop, post-punk and shoegaze that's been dominating the alternative music hemisphere for most of this decade.
