Description
This very early press of the The Wall (A4/B3/A3/B2) plays superbly well and visually the vinyls are in amazing condition. In fact I cannot underestimate how good they look and under a bright light there are no hairlines or scratches. The records have been extremely well looked after and rarely played in my opinion.
pinkfloydarchives.com tends to suggest this is a first issue of this classic LP
I have play tested the vinyls and have to be among the best I have ever heard. Any static is barely audible and they almost sound as new. The vinyls still have that glossy sheen and would not disappoint any fan.
Side One plays with exceptional audio with almost no interference. I only heard two light clicks during the playback, it is a stunning listen. No clicks or jumps this is very nearly as good as it gets. The audio plays with a wonderful depth and clarity.
Side Two begins with a little static and perhaps plays overall with a little more crackle than Side One. I only mention this to give a comprehensive description because the sound is still of a very high standard and for over 35 years old there is always going to be a little static. On this LP it is minimal. 'Don't Leave Me Now' is a classic example of this and plays superbly well with great clarity.
Side Three again plays with exceptional clarity. There is just a little more static early on during 'Nobody Home' but from thereafter plays with wonderful depth. The audio on 'Comfortably Numb' is stunning.
Side Four plays with great audio again and it would be difficult to improve upon it. With practically zero interference it almost grades as Mint, perhaps the merest hint of static. There are just a couple of light clicks during 'Stop'. The final track 'Outside The Wall' plays in sublime fashion with no static whatsoever.
Overall this is a superb early press/first issue. With fantastic sound many would grade the vinyls as Near Mint but as I fully play test my LPs it is only correct to give a complete and honest grading. On many occasions though I do think I under-grade!
The cream gatefold cover (with misaligned bricks as per the early presses) is in truly excellent condition and has minimal shelf wear. The edges and corners are extremely clean as is the opening edge and the wide spine is still 100% intact. It just has faint spotting on the bottom of the cover with the same on the reverse side but honestly is only very minor. There is also no discolouration which is very common with this cover. Overall this is one of the best early press gatefolds I have seen. The inside (no band credits as per a first press) is in perfect condition with no marking.
The lyric sleeves are in fantastic shape which is so rare as they so often have splits. Not these two! They do of course have the rounded corners with the 9 inch thumb notches. They are very close to Mint. One just has a couple of faint marks.
