Description

"The Pink Floyd: The Piper at the Gates of Dawn" Columbia 1967

This is an auction on what is doubtless one of the earliest copies of Pink Floyd's classic: UK manufacture, 1967, monophonic, SX 6157 (sleeve), XAX.3419, XAX.3420 (labels), XAX.3419-2, XAX.3420-1 (trailoff), G1, P1 (trailoff). No "file under..." on the flipback; "Sold in UK Subject to..." on the labels and "Factory Sample: Not for Sale" sticker to the head of the label on side 2, no K T (naturally, as a sample). First pressings of this LP are valuable enough; sample copies are almost never seen. This will be the crowning jewel of any PF collection. Grade: VG (record) / Ex (sleeve). Notes: some sleeve scuff, small patches of needle-mark, and quite a few hairline scratches to both sides (nothing deep); playback on both sides is affected by these - play is generally quite good w/ an undercurrent of static but the music buoyantly rising above it all, each side opens with a dull tick but these cease rather quickly, side 2 is also marred by 5 moderately loud pops toward the second half of the side (annoying, not alarming in quality); the labels (see images) have wear at the holes and spindle marks near the whole but are clean and still bright enough to be called presentable; this copy lacks the original inner sleeve (a standard issue replacement is provided); the sleeve is overall sound and attractive: a touch of ring-wear to both sides; mild crimping to the edges, slight loss of laminate near the opening, some soiling to the rear. Not the finest copy to be found, but arguably one of the earliest.
