Another from my personal collection of over 50,000 UK albums that I have collected over a period of more than 45 years! 1st UK pressing of Pink Floyd's  1994 "Division Bell" album  on the custom EMI/Columbia labels. This album was purchased from new at the Division Bell Concert at Earls Court in 1994 and originally only ever played to record to tape and then stored in a case with the vinyl separated from the cover and sleeve for protection. This is how I have always stored my records!! (Black Vinyl, Only 1st UK press)! (Note! Visually the vinyl looks only ever played one time but the vinyl has a single sleeve removal scratch/scuff on side one that causes light background ticks that can be heard in quieter places mainly in the right hand channel on this side 1. Probably caused by grit getting caught in the thick card sleeve at some time. )  The audio generally is clean clear and very vibrant and very enjoyable indeed. These earliest originals (Black vinyl) are the best sounding pressings and also the hardest to ever find like this!    This album is complete with the original and beautiful 1st issue un- laminated gate fold cover No nasty creases no splits or tears graded very near mint! This is also complete with the original picture lyric inner record sleeve in superb condition rarely seen complete like this!

The Division Bell is the fourteenth studio album by the English progressive rock band Pink Floyd, released on 28 March 1994 by EMI Records in the United Kingdom and on 4 April by Columbia Records in the United States.






The album's music was written mostly by guitarist and singer David Gilmour and keyboardist Rick Wright, and features Wright's first lead vocal on a Pink Floyd album since The Dark Side of the Moon (1973).






Gilmour's new wife, Polly Samson, co-wrote many of the lyrics, which deal with themes of communication. Recording took place in locations including the band's Britannia Row Studios, and Gilmour's houseboat, Astoria. The production team included Pink Floyd stalwarts such as producer Bob Ezrin, engineer Andy Jackson and saxophonist Dick Parry.




The Division Bell deals with themes of communication and the idea that talking can solve many problems.






In the Studio radio host Redbeard suggested that the album offered "the very real possibility of transcending it all, through shivering moments of grace".








Songs such as "Poles Apart" and "Lost for Words" have been interpreted as references to the estrangement between Pink Floyd and former band member Roger Waters, who left in 1985; however, Gilmour denied this, and said: "People can invent and relate to a song in their personal ways, but it's a little late at this point for us to be conjuring Roger up." The title refers to the division bell rung in the British parliament to announce a vote. Drummer Nick Mason said: "It does have some meaning. It's about people making choices, yeas or nays."






Produced a few years after the collapse of the Eastern Bloc, "A Great Day for Freedom" juxtaposes the general euphoria of, for instance, the fall of the Berlin Wall, with the subsequent wars and ethnic cleansing, particularly in Yugoslavia.






Audio samples of Stephen Hawking, originally recorded for a BT television advertisement, were used in "Keep Talking"; Gilmour was so moved by Hawking's sentiment in the advert that he contacted the advertising company for permission to use the recordings on the album. Mason said it felt "politically incorrect to take ideas from advertising, but it seemed a very relevant piece." At the end of the album Gilmour's stepson Charlie is heard hanging up the telephone receiver on Pink Floyd manager Steve O'Rourke, who had pleaded to be allowed to appear on a Pink Floyd album.







In January 1993, Gilmour, Mason and Wright began improvising new material in sessions at the remodelled Britannia Row Studios.





They recruited bassist Guy Pratt; according to Mason, "an interesting phenomenon occurred, which was that Pratt's playing tended to change the mood of the music we had created on our own". Without the legal problems experienced during production of their 1987 album, A Momentary Lapse of Reason, Gilmour was at ease; if he felt the band were "getting somewhere", he would record them on a two-track DAT recorder. At one point Gilmour surreptitiously recorded Wright playing, capturing material which formed the basis for three pieces of music.




After about two weeks the band had around 65 pieces of music. With engineer Andy Jackson back on the team, and Bob Ezrin as co-producer, production moved to Gilmour's houseboat and recording studio, Astoria. The band listened to and voted on each track, and whittled the material down to about 27 pieces of music. Eliminating some tracks, and merging others, they arrived at about eleven songs. Song selection was based upon a system of points, whereby all three members would award marks out of ten to each candidate song, a system skewed somewhat by Wright's decision to award his songs ten points each, and the other songs no points.



 Wright was not contractually a full member of the band, a situation which upset him. Wright reflected: "It came very close to a point where I wasn't going to do the album, because I didn't feel that what we'd agreed was fair." Wright received his first songwriting credits on any Pink Floyd album since 1975's Wish You Were Here.

The Vinyl
On initial visual inspection the vinyl looks absolutely superb, (NOTE) In strong light I notice that there are fine sleeve removal scratches/scuffs and on side one there is a fine scratch probably cause by grit being trapped in the original card sleeve, (this does cause light background ticks on this side. Any other marks that could possibly be seen would be light whypsy surface scuffs and sleeve removal type only.. ,  This lays perfectly flat on the turntable and are free from any warping. (Note! I have double checked this) The vinyl looks superb, still retaining its original glossy sheen from new.  (no) deep needle scratches or marks that would cause any loud constant clicks or pops at all!

The Audio Quality
I have played the vinyl prior to listing on a top system at very loud volume! The audio is clear and very vibrant throughout! Top audio seperation on all frequencies only heard like this on early original 1st pressings! Note: Static ticks were heard on side one as previously mentioned and isolated static crackle heard in quieter places. Importantly there were no loud constant clicks/ticks, pops or any jumps. The audio is graded at Excellent (interference noted)
Note: On some systems the static/ticks heard may not be as evident on some systems as the system that I recorded this on, which is very clinicle and picks up everything. 

PLEASE NOTE! I always add this disclaimer! I have played this album prior to listing as usual and have given my honest opinion on the audio quality. Please allow for static ticks and static crackle as previously described.  Please remember this is a 25 years old original vinyl (not a reissue) Please allow for the odd interference/static/crackle/tick but importantly nothing consistant through out the audio! Please remember  that this would have been originally played on a system that is 25 years old!
All indications i.e. that this vinyl has (not) been played much and in fact looks barely ever played, , at least no more than a handful of times in my opinion.
 
The labels
This features the custom "EMI" labels. These are superbe I can just barely see a hint of any spider traces on the labels, (even when angled to the light) and little if (no) spindle ware!

The Record Sleeve
This is the original card type, piocture/lyric sleeve. No splits or tears. Superb for 25 years old like this!  The vinyl is now  always stored seperately from the sleeve. Note This is the original!

The cover
The original 1st issue un-laminated gatefold cover  cover is absolutely superbe Near Mint!  Rarely seen in decent top and Near Mint condition like this one.  There are (no) edge splits or tears.   The spine is lovely and  square   A truly superbe example rarely seen like this.!  Super glossy  No rubbing or ring wear worth to mention. No real nasty creases at all, Any imperfections, are not noticed unless looked for in my opinion.  Must be at least Very Near Mint  in my opinion rarely ever seen like this after 25 years on this cover!
