PINK FLOYD

“EL LADO OSCURO DE LA LUNA”

(THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON)

WOW!!! WOW!!! WOW!!! MEGARARE and HARD-TO-FIND Odeon Records very first STEREO edition, second press, released, made and distributed in Chile in 1973 by Industrias Eléctricas Y Musicales Odeon S.A. (Odeon Records Chile, an EMI company), licensed from The Gramophone Co. Ltd., UK, catalog number 5064, with machine etched matrix numbers SHVL 804 A-3 19 in Side A and SHVL 804 B-3 16 in Side B, with white/light blue/black Odeon Records labels. Yes Sirs, ANOTHER FIND FROM CHILE for all fans, lovers and collectors of Pink Floyd and progressive rock!!!

“THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON” was originally released in March 1973 and the same year we got it here in Chile and it was so successful that we got many different issues which could confuse some collectors about which issue was released first. The most important to consider is the catalog number to identify the first and the second edition. The catalog number of the first edition is “5064”. The catalog number of second edition is “SLDC-36831”. From each edition you can find different pressings with different labels and we got them, like usual those years, with an UNIQUE NON-GATEFOLD COVER!!! Yes!!! In Chile the cover is mostly made of two single sheets of heavy paper (or thin cardboard) kept together by an outer plastic bag which’s part of the cover. If you know Chilean albums of the period you should know the kind of cover I’m talking about. However, this time I’ve found the RAREST COVER of Chilean “The Dark Side Of The Moon”, a REAL FULL LAMINATED FLIPBACK COVER!!! I’m not sure when this issue was released but the catalog number, 5064, proves it’s an original first edition of 1973 and the white/blue labels prove this is the second press. Laminated front cover keeps the original artwork with black cover, the prism with dark brown borders and the colors in the rainbow are only 4: yellow, light orange, orange and red. But the most interesting fact about this MEGARARE COVER is this front cover is TEXTURED!!! Laminated back cover is totally different, it’s black with white text, at top right corner it’s the Odeon logo with the catalog number and at top left corner is the tracklist in English, translated to Spanish, with songwriting credits for each song. Below the tracklist are the credits for the album and text in Spanish, and the lyrics of all songs written in English. At the bottom it says: “Marca Registrada. Fabricado y Distribuido por Industrias Eléctricas y Musicales Odeon, S.A. Casilla 186-D – Santiago (Chile)”. And it's also very slightly textured under the lamination. Yes, yes, yes… Here it’s another REAL FIND, another rarity from South America, another UNIQUE press from Chile!!! A REAL FIRST ISSUE (second press) of “The Dark Side Of The Moon” released in Chile with full laminated and textured non-gatefold cover!!! But that’s not the only rarity, in back cover it says “ROGERS WATERS”. And more!!! In labels the song “Breathe” is written “BREATHE IN THE AIR” and the song “Brain damage”, correctly written in back cover, is misspelled “BRIAN damage”!!! WOW!!! A MUST TO HAVE!!! How many copies like this exist? We don’t know, but we know this is REALLY ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO FIND!!! And here you have the chance to get this MEGARARE PRESS of another rock classic album!!!

Remember, “THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON” released in Chile in 1973 has an UNIQUE COVER and the record I’m selling now it’s not the common issue, this is the MEGARARE FIRST EDITION, second press, with FULL LAMINATED AND TEXTURED FLIPBACK NON-GATEFOLD COVER!!! And keep in mind all the UNIQUE ERRORS in this press!!! WHAT A FIND!!! But in this copy we got another “goal”, the ULTRARARE STICKER!!! As you can see in the label of Side A, it’s a gold triangle sticker with black lettering “EL LADO OSCURO DE LA LUNA PINK FLOYD” (The Dark Side Of The Moon Pink Floyd). This ULTRARARE STICKER was in front cover of only some copies sold in Chile, as far as I know it’s the same sticker you can find in the Argentinian issues, so I have the idea Odeon Records sent some stickers to Chile to help in the promotion of the LP. But in this copy some past owner had the bad idea to remove it and put it in the label and the sticker was partially broken It seems every new owner of the record tried to repair the sticker making the damage bigger. But you can see the sticker is still there to prove its existence!!! AMAZING AND ULTRARARE PRESS of “THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOON”. Even though in the world of record collecting you never know what you might find, I doubt you will find this press again!!! A MUST TO HAVE for all fans, lovers and/or collectors of Pink Floyd and general Prog Rock!!!

The cover was already described and it’s in VG- or VG condition the front cover, clean and clear, complete, no missing parts, with light creases, no writings, with light ring marks, moderate wear in all edges, more evident in corners and severe wear in the mouth edge, with notorious lamination peeling in corners and mouth edge, and a little tear in the orange strip of the rainbow, and in VG+ or EX- condition the back cover, so clean and clear like front cover, but almost intact lamination, some rips in the mouth edge, creases and a faint ring mark, but the most incredible fact is this cover doesn’t have seam splits, a real miracle for this so fragile kind of cover, but it’s partially unglued in the mouth at top and bottom sides. The record is in strong VG- or VG condition the Side A, glossy and clean, but with loads and loads of soft hairlines and scuffs and many light scratches which prove this side of the record saw many plays and wasn’t treated so carefully, and in VG or even VG+ condition the Side B, with many hairlines, soft scuffs and light scratches, which could give the idea the record won’t play properly, but it runs with no problem. Labels on both sides are in VG- or VG condition, clean and clear, with minimal spindle hole wear and evident age browning, with the name of the band and album title covered by the sticker in Side A, with the sticker partially broken and with missing parts which some past owner tried to replace with blue pencil and residues of tape, with the name of a past owner and the date Dec 26 of 1977 in Side B, maybe the date of purchase of this record by the owner who wrote his name. The sound is in great VG or even VG+ condition both sides, loud, clean and clear, but with soft background noise (background noise was normal in most of records pressed in Chile), mostly evident in silent parts, with constant light crackles, more evident at the beginning and at the end of each side, and occasional soft clicks here and there, which don’t cause major distraction from the still loud and clear sound this album keeps from the beginning to the end (I guess it needs an ultra-sonic cleaning to get a better sound quality). Overall, a so rare record like this, it has to be A MUST TO HAVE for Pink Floyd collectors and fans, not many times seen and this time you have the chance to get and own this MEGARARE PRESS!!! For sure this copy isn’t for Minty minds or audiophiles, but if you know the meaning of the word “rarity” and you collect Pink Floyd, sure you know THIS COPY IS A MUST TO HAVE!!! And after about 50 years and many plays this copy still retains a nice look and a very decent and respectable sound quality which shouldn’t disappoint anyone and should satisfy any serious collector who knows the real level of rarity of this Chilean record!!! AMAZING FIND FROM CHILE AGAIN!!! Remember the UNIQUE FULL LAMINATED AND TEXTURED FLIPBACK NON-GATEFOLD COVER, the UNIQUE ERRORS and the ULTRARARE STICKER!!! Click on the pictures to enlarge and see the labels and cover in detail. WOW!!!

Bid with confidence and don’t wait until the last second because you could lose the chance to get a real collectable record from Chile (South America) in superb condition like this copy is. You know South American records aren’t easy to get in good conditions, so HAPPY BIDDING and don’t let this record to go away… you could never see a so good copy of this record again… if you are lucky enough to see even another copy again…

Thanks for watching and bidding, good luck and best regards from Chile

We don’t use the generic “VG” most of South American sellers use to hide poor quality conditions or “NM” or “Mint” for records which aren’t even clean and sound less than a normal “VG” in professional standards. We use the Record Collector’s Grading System with a little modification: we don’t use MINT grade but for Sealed records and we can use a + or – to show a most professional accurate description.

MINT (M): I only use this grade for Sealed records.

NEAR MINT (NM): The record itself is in like new condition with no surface marks or deterioration in sound quality (only some very very very light hairlines caused for the record rubbing the sleeve). The cover and any extra items such as the lyric sheet, booklet or poster are in like perfect condition.

EXCELLENT (EX): The record shows some signs of having been played, but there is very little lessening in sound quality, maybe some surface marks which doesn’t affect play. The cover and packaging might have slight wear and/or creasing.

VERY GOOD (VG): The record has obviously been played many times, but displays no major deterioration in sound quality, despite noticeable surface marks and the occasional light scratch. Normal wear and tear on the cover or extra items, without any major defects, is acceptable.

GOOD (G): The record has been played so much that the sound quality has noticeably deteriorated, perhaps with some distortion and mild scratches. The cover and contents suffer from folding, scuffing of edges, spine splits, discoloration, etc.

FAIR (F): The record is still just playable but has not been cared for properly and displays considerable surface noise; it may even jump.
The cover and contents will be torn, stained and/or defaced.

POOR (P): The record will not play properly due to scratches, bad surface noise, etc. The cover and contents will be badly damaged or partly missing.

BAD (B): The record is unplayable or might even be broken, and is only of use as a collection-filler.

FEEDBACK

We don’t have anything to hide and we know the buyers expect to receive feedback after to pay for the items they win. Most of sellers say to give feedback when buyers leave feedback first. But we know that’s not fair for buyers. So, we leave feedback immediately after to receive the payment, because we understand that’s the part that buyers must receive feedback for. And we expect to receive positive feedback from buyers who receive the records immediately after they have got the records.
