Description
PIL Metal Box. Unrestored metal tin cannister containing the three sought after 12" 45rpms of Gunter Grove's finest. Pure trouble. Apparently when Virgin Records manufactured this release they had to re open an old metal works factory to make the metal tins.
Visually the box has been touched by punks but still in good cool shape. Includes the' Metal 1' sticker on reverse.
Actual Play testing ON headphones/full trebLE:::
MATRIX Nos ALL handwritten: All matrix numbers on each side are prefixed by 'METAL' accompanied by a small handwritten 'TY CBS'
All sides have slight various surface sound that doesn't spoil listening experience
We will note any particular surface during play here.
Disc One Side One 1-A-1 Albatross (small subtle left hand click end of track around fade) Side Two : Matrix: B 1- A - 1 B ( matrix ERROR :this is how it's written with the A scratched out by B) Memories (2 second or so slight click on intro) Swanlake (has music going into runout groove til stylus lifts)
DISC TWO SIDE ONE
1-C-1 Poptones (odd pop in left and right ear) Careering great
Side Two 1-D-1 No Birds (some slight surface,10 second click on intro visual paper scuffs when in light but again strong sound) Graveyard - great
DISC THREE SIDE ONE
1-E-1 The Suit This is one of the quieter tracks from out of this metal box - there is the slightest click/pop here and there but pretty clean again. Bad Baby - same as above
Side TWO
1-F-1 The Socialist/Chant/Radio 4 - overall quiet just the group playing away. The quieter passages on the track Radio 4 usually suffer from general playing and surface but this pressing is reasonably free of surface apart from a few moments.
These shiney 1979 first pressings sound clear and deep. The treble was on full and as cruel as we could get it to expose any surface here and there as described above.
A strict sonic 8/10 or generally playing between VG ++EX-- to EX + with some M- on alot of tracks when the stylus has travelled around 5mm in from the edge of the disc playing area. Most post Punk LPS hardly survive their owner's handling and are hard to find in this condition especially after 30 years.
The tin has tarnished but has not been tampered with or resprayed as some are now turning up like.
All record players will produce differing sound qualities and flaws but we have really enjoyed and been scared by this album as we are sure the lucky winner will be too.
These records look rather clean and neat.Labels show faintest if any spindle as you can see in the pictures
This edition usually gets hunted down and hidden away for a decade or so. Maybe there's someone out there that might wanna just play it to death disco. all inserts/dividers intact and ex-.
this is the nasty genuine item on virgin and better sounding. The Jah really Wobbles.
