Various Artists - Picnic (a Breath of Fresh Air)
Harvest SHSS 1/2 1970 UK
Condition Vinyl Mint-/Near Mint/Sleeve EX++
This is the Original Rare UK Pressing on the Green Harvest Label in Laminated `Hipgnosis` Sleeve - matrix/run out groove - SHSS 1 A-2/SHSS 1 B-1/SHSS 2 A-1/SHSS 2 B-1 Mother Stampers 2 GL/1RG/1RT/1AR
Vinyl - NICE & THICK still has that just pressed shine, both discs look MINT in normal light & Play AS NEW!! - even under very bright light scrutiny Disc 1 looks as New a real TOP copy!! Disc 2 under bright light scrutiny shows some light wispy sleeve removal scuffs but nothing serious this really is a GREAT COPY!! - comes with white `made in Great Britain` Polylined sleeves
Labels - UNDAMAGED & Beautifully CLEAN, even under bright light Disc 1 shows only 1 or 2 spindle lines, Disc 2 has had more play a few lines but very little - AMAZINGLY for a sampler both these LP`s have hardly been played at all!! Rim credits `Made in GT Britain` & `Gram co...` Text & `NO EMI` boxed logo (not sure as this was a sampler that it ever had a later 2nd issue with boxed logo)
Sleeve - Original Laminated ` Hipgnosis` Gatefold Sleeve` - The main fault with this sleeve is that it tends to lose its colour the nice blue of the sky tends to fade, not this one it still has a nice rich blue to it (I have 4 others to compare it to) also the shape of the records used to show through the front of the sleeve (this is due to it being a double LP and with the card being quite flexible it was never really designed to handle 2 HEAVY VINYL`s it was after all supposed to be a budget release), again this one seems to have not suffered this problem with ringwear only visible when turned at an angle to light! TOP Spine with one little chip, NO Edge Wear, Amazingly New SHARP Openings, the only real negative I can find is on the rear of the sleeve where the laminate has bubbled (see photos) , still from my experience this rates as a GREAT Copy!!! - NO pen writing/NO Tears/NO sticky label problems etc
Rarity - Yes!! - it was a habit of the progressive labels of the early 70`s (i.e Island, Vertigo, Polydor, Harvest etc) to put out what were called `Samplers` containing tracks from their artists roster - what was great about many of them was the sleeve designs and the musical content (they usually contained the choice picks from the artists recent LPs) - some were very basic as they usually sold for half the cost of a normal LP - Finding them in really nice condition like this one is what makes them rare!! also this `Sampler` in particular became special for its inclusion of Pink Floyds `Embryo` which at that time wasn't available on any other official releases (and incidentally is a great track) - to my knowledge it was never reissued and so all the copies come on the `Unboxed EMI` label versions!!
Musically - a great way to experience some of Harvests most obscure & Rare Folk, Prog Rock groups (see list below)!!

Just a note on Grading - I always play grade my records right through and unless stated they do not jump, skip or stick when played!!! I always view the vinyl under a very bright halogen spotlight!!! Why? because although I have excellent vision when viewed under a normal light or even worse a fluorescent tube (most shops have these) the vinyl will not show up how marked it truly is - some view records in daylight but this has to be done in direct sunlight to see the hidden marks - I do this so that I can give the full picture and should please even the most `critical` of collectors. Also I photograph the WHOLE of the cover (I don't cut off the corners or edge) so you can see as close as possible what you will receive!!
Postage/packing: I use new professional record mailers with several cardboard stiffeners to protect the cover - the record will be placed in a NEW clean inner sleeve, removed from the record cover (saves ringwear/pushing through seams) and together with original old inner placed in a NEW pvc outer sleeve - I also include recorded delivery as standard in the overall cost in the UK (70p) it covers up to £30 in case of loss - it will be optional for international packages (as it is more expensive) but still advisable! - please note complete postage charges (below) before bidding!
Payment - I am quite patient but if I have waited a couple of weeks for money and sent reminders unless there is a good reason I will claim back my fees and give a nonpaying bidder strike - I don't charge for Paypal!
Returns - If you feel there are any problems with an item you have purchased please feel free to contact me - I will be glad to discuss the matter as I want people to be happy with their purchase!!!
