Even though a little Phil Spector goes a very long way for me, this collection is essential. Instead of having to wade through the four-plus hours that make up the popular Back to Mono box set, this 2LP collection from 1977 more than gets the job done. Sure, it omits his solid work with The Beatles (especially the early solo records of John Lennon and George Harrison), but it features all the essentials: "Be My Baby," "Da Doo Ron Ron," "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'," "To Know Him Is to Love Him," "Spanish Harlem," "Unchained Melody," and "River Deep -- Mountain High." Though the lyrical content of most of these songs is fairly innocuous, Spector's Wagnerian backdrop to these pop/rock tune is always overwhelming. He has had many imitators, several of whom have made more satisfactory product than him (Shadow Morton, Brian Wilson, and even Bruce Springsteen on Born to Run), but his importance as a record producing auteur cannot be overstated.

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL  AS  NEAR MINT. Some VERY LIGHT AND SUPERFICIAL abrasions – mostly sleeve scuffs -  are (barely) visible, but are probably inaudible,  and do not affect visual integrity or beauty of the vinyl. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)            The records are pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(c)             Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·       COVER

THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT EXCELLENT OR VERY GOOD+++.

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-         Cover has JUST A HINT of ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 2.

-        Cover has a small cutout saw-mark (an indent about 3-5 mm long ) on one of its seams.

-         Minor shelf wear noted on the seams (nothing significant)

-         The back panel of the cover has a long, razor-like line (cut) on the cover, as if someone attempted to cut away the shrink wrap with a razor, but inadvertently left the mark on the cover as well. The paper slick is intact and no part is missing, but the razor line is visible.

NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:

-        No split seams

-        No cut-out (drill) holes.

-        No cut-out corners

-        No dirt/dust rubbing stains (friction marks caused by rubbing against other covers)

-        No wrinkles or creases

-        No yellowing from aging

-        No writing

-        No stamps

-        No tearing: no chips, dents or nicks on the seams

-        No peel-off marks

-        No stains

-        No mold or mildew spots

-        No stickers or labels

-        No water damage

-        No warping

-        No wax, glue, paint or liquid drops on the cover

-        No glue traces or wax residue.

-        No bar codes

-        No RIAA stamps or stickers.
