Description

This is Paul McCartney's 1st U.K. released album from April 1970. Cat. No. PCS 7102.

Not only is this his 1st album but it's a very early pressing with 2u/1u stampers which apparently were withdrawn because of an issue with the ending of Maybe I'm Amazed. It is said it's very slightly longer than the 2/3/4u pressings ala Tomorrow Never Knows on Revolver (I'm not convinced though) but it was definitely withdrawn (there are so few of these). Not only that but it's also a factory sample demo too.

I have just replayed this fully on headphones and can report no issues. There is some very small static noise in the quiet moments and run ins that a professional clean should improve. There are no skips or sticks. The vinyl surfaces have a brilliant sheen to them, there are just a few pops at the end of T1, side 2, they are small. I can't stress enough how good the surfaces are though.

The labels are also lovely with no writing. The factory sample sticker is adhered to side one.

The fully laminated gatefold sleeve is also lovely with just a small crease top left and bottom right. Otherwise it's one of the best, even the laminate crackles when carefully opening! This is the early version that states EMI Records (The Gramophone Co.Ltd and not Apple records as on later covers. The spine is fully readable.

The inner sleeve is the Apple black version with one die cut hole probably a left over from before, it does have a couple of corner creases. I will insert it in a poly lined inner.

I have included a copy of the Q and A sheet that Paul inserted into review copies. This is a copy.

Matrix YEX 775-A-2u, YEX 776-1u.

Stampers 2 GD, 1L. There is the letter B stamped at 12 o'clock on side 2!

All in all a very rare and significant Beatles/McCartney record.
