PAUL GIOVANNI & MAGNET – The Wicker Man ORIGINAL SOUNDTRACK ALBUM Simply Vinyl LP / SVLP 389 (UK, Stereo, 2002)
Happy to present the benchmark release of this incredible soundtrack – the 1st Simply Vinyl press from 2002 on black vinyl and the first time these songs were heard from the 1st generation tape, digitally transferred by David Fanshawe. Although Jonny Trunk’s release preceded this one by around 4 years it seriously pales in terms of recording quality compared to this and was only recorded from a copy of the film itself rather than from the original master tape, like we have here.
Additionally, you have to doff your cap to Simply Vinyl for this lovely package. Also included with the picture labeled 180g vinyl LP is a sumptuous gatefold sleeve with in-depth notes about the film and the music in the film, a lovely double sided picture inner featuring two original promotional posters for the film (one on either side) and a nice envelope style PVC protective cover with a silver seal (see pic). Without a doubt the nicest release so far of this milestone LP.
The gatefold sleeve is pretty much as new. NO wear, splits, writing or other nasties. M- (Mint Minus) condition.
The inner sleeve is also in M- (Mint Minus) – factory fresh.
The record labels are as new. No spindle evidence.
The vinyl has been played twice, once after purchase and once for the test play. Looks M- (Mint Minus). One faint hairline and one faint scuff away from new but with maximum shine. Play back reveals little except some surface static. No ticks, clicks, pops, hiss or distortion. These songs were remastered beautifully!
The outer PVC sleeve has no splits. The silver seal just shows scant evidence of being opened to remove the disc but all there and all in one piece with great shine.
Fantastic package. No reserve.

I do not use any more than ONE plus or minus between grades. After all, WHAT ON EARTH DOES VG+++++ MEAN? What is NM+? Or EX---? These are just some of the ridiculous gradings I’ve encountered on eBay. I am very careful using the EX (Excellent) grade. Excellent, by dictionary definition means‘extremely good’ NOT ‘marked and slightly beat up with wear’!
