Anonymous South Korean shoegazer Parannoul has become renowned in the scene for his serene and grandiose sonic forays into emotive post-rock, while underplaying his prowess at every turn and referring to the project as nothing more than "just a student writing music in my bedroom". After The Magic marks his third full-length (at least under the Parannoul moniker) and serves as not only the major label debut for the project since signing to Topshelf Records but offers a distillation of the differing sonic forms which make up the musical backbone of his compositions. Saccharine crescendos, reverb and echo drenched aquatic vocals and glistening layers of guitar coalesce into a transcendent and electronica tinged hue of Mogwai meets My Bloody Valentine vibes with a Mineral/Sunny Day Real Estate heart worn on tender sleeves.
