For the first time, the legendary recording sessions the Oscar Peterson Trio made in the living room of MPS producer Hans Georg Brunner-Schwer (HGBS) are available inone box with 8 Cds.
The deluxe packaging combines the six original volumes (i.e. the albums “Action”, “Girl Talk”, “The Way I Really Play”, “My Favorite Instrument”, “Mellow Mood”, and “Travelin’ On”) with two CDs of “LostTapes”.
One of the latter presents Oscar Peterson fans with never before released recordings which had been selected by MPS founder HGBS himself shortly before he passed away in 2004.
The producer team of these MPS reissues made every effort to provide a harmonious sound for all recordings.“Painstakingly detailed work entailing innumerable cuts was necessary in order to correct the fluctuations in sound levels and the consequent changes in the tonal panorama,” explains Dirk Sommer, “and thus return the music to the tonal standards that correspond to the original recordings.”
This 8 CD box conducts the listener into the analog atmosphere of the living room of the jazz-loving millionaire who presented a selected live audience with unforgettable trio recitals and jazz fans around the world with eight musical milestones containing some of Oscar Peterson’s best standard interpretations. Brunner-Schwer’s son Andreas and music journalist Siegfried Schmidt-Joos were interviewed for the 60-page booklet and provide intimate first-hand insights into the concert atmosphere in HGBS’s Black Forest villa.
The final track of “Lost Tapes II” features Oscar Peterson as a vocalist joining the marvellous Singers Unlimited interpreting “A Lovely Way To Spend An Evening”.price rating
