Description
Up for bid is a VG copy of the first Velvet Underground album with a peelable banana. It is a Verve v6-5008 Stereo vinyl album. As pictured, the cover is in what I would term VG+ shape with no significant bumps, tears or cut-outs. There is, however, a name written in black marker on the rear cover. The actual record I would classify as simply VG. The vinyl does have several minor scratches on side one, but to the naked eye the record looks VG+ to NM-. However, when played there is some noticeable surface noise, crackling, etc. In addition, the same name is featured on side two of the record’s label. The record is in its original in-sleeve.
As a collector, when I first saw this record, I thought I had found the holy grail. The banana is in very good shape, and it’s all there except the stem is a bit roughed up, and I think the image shows that very clearly. Otherwise, it’s very hard to find one of this in this good of shape. As mentioned, the record is problematic, but looks very shiny and clean. There is a minor discoloration in the upper right-hand corner, no doubt where the original price sticker was located.
But as a collector, I was initially attracted to it, and I think other like-minded collectors will be too.
