Pradelli, Tebaldi, Del Monaco, et al - Verdi LA FORZA DEL DESTINO - 4LPs Box - Decca SXL-2069-72 - EXTREMELY RARE!!



Among the most sought after opera series on the planet are the early Black Label Decca ffss discs, of which this set is one.

It features The Chorus and Orchestra of the Academia Di Santa Cecilia, Rome, Francesco Molinari Pradelli at baton, with soloist support from some Italian notables, to say the least:

Mario Del Monaco plays Don Alvaro; Renata Tebaldi plays Donna Leonora; Ettore Bastianini plays Don Carlo; Simionato plays Preziosilla; and Siepi plays Padre Guardinao.

This rare edition has a box that has fallen into disrepair, with every corner split and frayed and the frontispiece quite yellowed with age. Inside, the enclosure describing the soloists is simply yellowed but fine in every other way, and the small libretto booklet is perfect, almost new in feel.

Better news is that all four records are in very decent shape. Simply rubber mat scuffs, is all. VG++ should be the order of the day, perhaps better. Very fine set, this one.

The original release in stereo, from the renowned opera staff at Decca, in plainly fine shape. A rare vinyl classic, to be sure.

One final note:

They say, when Tebaldi died, the birds throughout Italy didn't sing for a week.
