This is a set of 4 studio reel tapes, a recording of 'Skull & Roses' by The Grateful Dead (compiled live: April, 1971). Recorded in August of 1971, these tapes are duplicates made from the original masters, aquired at a San Francisco auction in 1980 along with numerous other studio tapes from The Dead and various other bands, including some nagra masters. They're recorded in 2-track stereo format at 7.5IPS with a test tone at the beginning of each one. We've listened to these tapes and found the song lists typed on the front of the boxes to be accurate. The reels for sides 2, 3, and 4 are marked by hand (see pics). The quality of these tapes is excellent, no splices or other damage. There are a couple of very brief spots where the speed is off, only a few seconds in two spots (in 'Playing in the Band' and 'Bobby McGee'). Except for reel #1, all of these reels are tails out. You'll need to transfer them to another reel before playing them. Please watch our items for sale. We'll be listing more tapes soon.
