You are bidding on an “Off the Record Special” show weekly broadcast.  They were distributed by Westwood One Radio Networks every week to subscriber radio stations who, in turn, put them out over the airwaves on a date that was contained inside the “broadcast window” (usually between 6 a.m. and midnight).

They are candid and personal interviews with individuals or groups, and are not re-broadcasts of already-existing interviews.  These were done exclusively for Westwood One Radio Networks.

SUMMARY: Rush is a Canadian rock band formed in August 1968, in the Willowdale neighbourhood of Toronto, Ontario. The band is composed of bassist, keyboardist, and lead vocalist Geddy Lee, guitarist Alex Lifeson, and drummer and lyricist Neil Peart. The band and its membership went through a number of re-configurations between 1968 and 1974, achieving their current form when Peart replaced original drummer John Rutsey in July 1974, two weeks before the group's first United States tour.

Since the release of the band's self-titled debut album in March 1974, Rush has become known for its musicianship, complex compositions, and eclectic lyrical motifs drawing heavily on science fiction, fantasy, and philosophy. Rush's music style has changed over the years, beginning with blues-inspired heavy metal on their first album, then encompassing hard rock, progressive rock, and a period with heavy use of synthesizers. They have been cited as an influence by various musical artists, including Metallica, Primus, Rage Against the Machine and The Smashing Pumpkins, as well as progressive metal bands such as Dream Theater and Symphony X.

Rush has won a number of Juno Awards, and was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 1994. Over their careers, the members of Rush have been acknowledged as some of the most proficient players on their respective instruments, with each band member winning numerous awards in magazine readers' polls. As a group, Rush possesses 24 gold records and 14 platinum (3 multi-platinum) records. Rush's sales statistics place them third behind The Beatles and The Rolling Stones for the most consecutive gold or platinum studio albums by a rock band. Rush also ranks 79th in U.S. album sales with 25 million units. Although total worldwide album sales are not calculated by any single entity, as of 2004 several industry sources estimated Rush's total worldwide album sales at over 40 million units.

The band finished touring the second leg of the Time Machine Tour in July 2011 and are expected to continue writing and recording their next studio album, Clockwork Angels, which is scheduled for release in the spring of 2012.

Okay, now for all of you true collectors who want it, here’s the “back story” for you:

You are bidding on a “does not exist” item. 

The normal sequence of events is that these arrive by second-day air to the radio station, well in advance of the scheduled airplay.  There is what is known as a “cue sheet” to show segment times and allow for the playing of local commercials and station IDs.  Then, at the conclusion of the broadcast, the radio station personnel sign the included “Certificate of Performance” to affirm that the albums(s) were played and the show was broadcast. 

Then, because sponsors embedded prepaid commercials into the program itself (that’s how they could afford to send out the albums every week), the albums the stations received were in fact fully owned by Westwood One Radio Networks and the sponsors, and the radio stations were only borrowing them long enough to use them and broadcast them one time during the stated broadcast window.  At that point, the radio stations were NOT allowed to keep them, and Westwood One did not want to pay to ship them back.  So guess what happened to them?

Under contract, the radio stations were ordered to DESTROY these albums.  Yep, every one, every time.

Obviously, that did NOT happen here!!  But it also means that these albums are an extreme rarity and each one is clearly a collectible.  So when considering the purchase of such an album from here (or anywhere else, if you can even find them!) look for the following items to be included:

The “cue sheet” (sometimes erroneously referred to as a “cut sheet”) that shows segments, contents, segment lengths, incues, outcues, billboards, commercials, and inserts for local breaks.  In short, it lists all of the elements contained in the album.
