Description
We recently acquired a record collection from the estate of
Phyl Garland,
renowned Journalist and Academist.
Her career began as a Reporter and then later an Editor for the Pittsburgh Courier.
Later, she became the New York Editor of Ebony Magazine and a contributing
Editor for Stereo Review.
In 1969 her book "The Sound of Soul", a comprehesive look
at black music was published.
She joined Columbia University in 1973 and was made a full professor in 1989.
