Description

ORLANDO JULIUS & HIS MODERN ACES James Brown Ride On Psychedelic Afro Shop 45!!!

See my other auctions for more killer Afro funk 45’s!!!

ARTIST - Orlando Julius And His Modern Aces
TITLE - James Brown Ride On b/w Psychedelic Afro Shop
LABEL/ CATALOG NUMBER - Polydor POE 2227 006
DESCRIPTION - Folks, this is a priviledge - I mean, this is freaking staggering. Just look at it! Orlando Julius made a 45 celebrating James Brown’s 1970 tour of Nigeria, the b-side is called “Psychedlic Afro Shop” and it is EXACTLY as good as that would lead you to believe. If not better. And then there’s the picture sleeve?! I can’t even... THIS IS A BIG DEAL. I’m lucky it ever graced my turntable.

CONDITION - G, plays with some light background noise but I think a large part of that is the length of each song - they’re each 6 minutes +. A side has no real marks, B side has a few visible light scratches that don’t seem to affect play. Both sides play loud with no pops, clicks or skips. As always, refer to clips below, which are full rips of each side. Please note: Unless stated otherwise all gradings are visual. Audio clips of the actual record for auction are provided for reference, as well as high resolution images of the sleeves. If a link is broken or not working, or you would like any clarifications, please do not hesitate to email us.

(((GRADING SCALE))): *PLEASE NOTE: I'm grading these African records to the same strict standards I'd grade any record, not relative to the condition you normally find African records in.*

NEAR MINT (NM)

We never assign Mint or Mint(-) grades, and the Near Mint designation is reserved for records that are visually flawless - as in, not one single mark. All records are graded visually unless otherwise noted, but any record with the Near Mint designation has also been play tested.

VERY GOOD PLUS (VG+)

Records in VG+ condition are in superb condition, but may have a faint mark or imperfection (that does not appear to affect play) holding it back from Near Mint status. A record can still attain this condition with a slight (but audibly imperceptible) warp, but this will always be noted in the description. VG+ records should play with no surface noise, clicks, pops, skips or hiss, as well as retain their luster.

VERY GOOD (VG)

Many of the imperfections found on a VG+ Record are more obvious on a VG record.  VG records have more obvious flaws than their counterparts in better shape. They lack most of the original gloss found on factory-fresh records. Groove wear is evident on sight, as are light scratches deep enough to feel with a fingernail.

VG records may have some surface noise, especially during the soft passages at a songs intro and ending but should never skip, pop loudly or overpower the music. A record receiving this grade should be a strong play copy, and something we’d personally be willing to play out.

GOOD

Be forewarned, records in G condition will have significant and obvious flaws, and are not recommended for collectors who abhor surface noise, though they should still play through without skipping. We typically avoid selling records in this condition unless they are extremely rare and have extra-musical value.
