ORIGINAL RARE 1949 "THE JAZZ SCENE" - 6 RECORD SET  - SIGNED - 31 PHOTOS & PRINT - My father at one time owned a huge Jazz Record collection and this original legendary album was purchase by him back in 1949 for an astonishing $50.00 dollars. Needless to say, the THE JAZZ SCENE remains one of the iconic six record sets. Not only a signed limited edition of 5000, but remained one of my father's absolute favorite purchases from his entire collection of music. 

I have included 12 listing photographs to give my potential buyers a visual taste of what is inside this incredible clothbound album. Besides the six Mercury Records, you have a frontispiece page signed Norman Grand, numerous pages of historical text on the various artists, 31 photos by legendary photographers, Juan Mili, Harold Trudeau and Paul Nodier and a foldout print by David Stone Martin. 

In addition, my father obtained an original autograph by guitarist Barney Kessel as seen opposite of the photo of Charlie Parker.

The album was created with a notebook style binding allowing the owner to move or rearrange the contents of the set of records, artwork, photos and text. 

Here is a small list of the leading musicians and conductors contained in the photographs, some of which can easily be considered the best images of these artist during their careers. Images include; Duke Ellington, Charlie Parker, Lester Young, Coleman Hawkins, Billie Holiday, Bud Powell, Louis Armstrong, Roy Eldridge, Ella Fitzgerald, Gene Krupa, Teddy Wilson, Benny Goodman, Oscar Pettiford, Mary Lou Williams, Sarah Vaughan, Dizzy Gillespie, Count Basie, Art Tatum and many others.

The records have been well played, but still remain in good condition for being 73 years old. I know you can buy a modern remastered version of these recordings, but owning an original cloth bound copy that is fully complete is truly the Holy Grail for any jazz enthusiast or jazz history collector. I am sure there are far fewer examples in existence today than the original 5000 that were produced. The cloth bound hardcover is in excellent minus condition with, strong outer binding, working notebook style binder, a few minor marks to the exterior and some minor rolling or curling to the front and back corners. 

All the interior pages are intact. I can only find two small tears on two of the paper pages and a small tear to one of the sleeves that hold one of the records; all have been reinforced with tape. The photographs have very little wear, even the two on the inside of the hard cover panels. As I explained, this album was cherished by my father and well taken care of over the years. He realized the importance of this legendary item the day he purchased it the year it was released. Again, the records have normal wear and have been played over the years, so they are not mint. You are considering this a piece as a major piece of jazz history for your collection or institution. I will carefully box this item to the winning bidder by Priority Mail.
