UK outfit Orchestra Mambo International was founded in 2022 by DJ Lubi and trombonist Jonny Enright and then grew from a one-off northern England concert into a live force that made a mark at Glaso while channelling the energy of forefathers Tito Puente, Eddie Palmieri and the Fania All-Stars. Their debut album takes its title from veteran Venezuelan vocalist Carlos "Pachanga" PeNa's onstage catchphrase, "apuntalo," which means "write it down", and lives up to it. Eight original Jonny Enright compositions have contributions from PeNa and timbalero Jimmy Le Messurier as they move through mambo, salsa dura, pachanga, son montuno, Puerto Rican bomba and Latin jazz. It's Frey, colourful and traditional in spirit but with a distinctly UK edge.
