OPUS 3 of SWEDEN is a well known audiophile label. Their music software  (CD and LP) competes with the likes of other grand audiophile labels like; MFSL, Sheffield Lab, Reference Recordings, Wilson Audio, Proprius, Mark Levinson, etc..

The company is a small independent Swedish recording company dedicated to recording timeless acoustical music such as jazz, folk, and classical. What makes their recordings so special?

• Opus 3's aim is to reproduce voices and instruments as naturally and accurately as possible.

• To attain the above goals, the company chooses recording environments with good natural ambience.

• The musicians placement is also carefully planned so that the best possible musical communication between the players and the venue is attained.

• They avoid all forms of device and electronic manipulation that could change the natural sound.

• Their recordings try to recreate and give the listener the best possible feeling and atmosphere that were felt at the moment of recording!

This Testrecord from Opus 3 contains a selection of naturally recorded acoustic music from the Opus 3 catalog. As with previous Testrecords, it is intended as a reference for evaluating a sound reproduction unit purporting to be genuine high fidelity.

The selection provides new examples of three important subject fields for sound reproduction: Depth of Image, Timbre and Dynamics.

Why has only acoustic music been included?

Recent developments in modern music have of course been increasingly dominated by the use of electronic instruments, synthesizers and sampled sounds, with a recording technique based on computers, sequences, multi-channel equipment and electronically generated or simulated acoustics. These sounds are recorded via cables, all electrically.

The sound for this type of music, being synthetically produced and not based on natural conditions, cannot readily be used in evaluating a Hi-Fi system, because there is no objective reality one can refer to, the sound is entirely the result of the subjective preferences of musicians, producer and technicians.

In a word, a Stradivarius violin played manually will always be a Stradivarius, but a triggered sample of "Space Shuttle String 8" can sound very different on different occasions.

The LP jacket is in Mint condition. The jacket is completely intact, with NO seam splits, and shows virtually no shelf wear - perhaps a slight corner bend at most.

The LP is in Mint condition! It is actually BRAND NEW and NEVER PLAYED. As collectors of this label should be aware, this record did not come factory sealed in cellophane from the manufacturer. However, this record is in a resealable, plastic outer sleeve for protection.

A Short Note About LP GRADING -

• Mint = Only used for sealed items.
• Near Mint = Virtually flawless in every way.
• Near Mint Minus = Item has some minor imperfections, some audible.
• Excellent = Item obviously played and enjoyed with some noise.
• Very Good Plus = Many more imperfections which are noticeable and obtrusive.
