By far the SINGLE RAREST release ever made on the legendary ESP Jazz / Avant-Garde label, “Movement Soul” is so brutally rare that not even the most ardent collectors of Jazz, Civil Rights artifacts, Folk-Protest movement or 1960’s Avant-Garde music have ever seen one. Many of those who have seen the image of this album among other ESP releases on other ESP album covers (by Ornette Coleman, Pearls Before Swine, Fugs, Albert Ayler, Sun Ra, etc.) remain convinced that the album actually does not exist – although it was included in  ESP catalogue among label’s other releases.

Well, there you have it, folks. The album actually exist, and we have one mouthwatering specimen here. Needless to say, this is the first, the last and the only copy we have ever spotted, and we don’t expect to find another one any time soon. Whether you are an African-American (or, for that matter, ANY American), a student of civil rights movement, Free-Jazz aficionado, or simply a lover of Black poetry and all things radical in music and in other arts, here’s your once-in-a-lifetime chance to grab this black beauty.

Finally, as an icing on a cake: not only is the cover of this album still in its original shrink wrap; the album also includes beautiful, original 12-page illustrated booklet which was included with the original album.

CONDITION:

(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we  grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)          WE GRADE THE VINYL AS STRONG VERY GOOD+(+) . CAUTION: The vinyl is NOT MINT or NEAR MINT, but is nevertheless in a very nice and clean condition. There are some surface marks and abrasions, mostly light and superficial, although some may be longer than 2 inches (1 inch = 2.5 centimeters)

We could not "feel" these abrasions with our fingertip, and we suspect that they are NOT audible.

(b)          The album comes with the original booklet still intact.

(c)           The record is apparently pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(d)          Stereo copies of this album are NOT known to exist.

(e)           Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·       COVER

THE COVER IS ABOUT VERY GOOD+(+)

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-        Cover has a partially split top seam (between 2 and 4 inches  / 5 to 10 centimeters); This split seam was delicately taped by the previous owner with a piece of transparent scotch tape

-        Cover has a partially split bottom seam (between 4 and 6 inches  / 10 to 15 centimeters)

-        Cover has a visible "wrinkle"(crease)  in one of the corners.

-        Cover shows some light yellowing on both sides, apparently from aging.

-        Cover has some fraying/wear along the spine

-        Cover has JUST A HINT of ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and  10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 2.

NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:

-        No cut-out (drill) holes.

-        No cut-out corners

-        No saw-marks or indents

-        No dirt/dust rubbing stains (friction marks caused by rubbing against other covers)

-        No writing

-        No stamps

-        No peel-off marks

-        No stains

-        No mold or mildew spots

-        No stickers or labels

-        No water damage

-        No razor marks, scratches, pressure marks, lines, streaks, or  cuts.

-        No warping

-        No wax, glue, paint or liquid drops on the cover

-        No glue traces or wax residue.

-        No bar codes

-        No RIAA stamps or stickers.
