Guitars stands out as one of Mike Oldfield's most underrated albums from the 90s, showing off his talents of the instrument in a variety of styles. From the serene beauty of 'Muse' to the energetic rock anthem 'Cochise,' Oldfield's signature sound shines through with a diverse array of guitar-driven compositions. Tracks like 'Embers' and 'Summit Day' offer tranquil and spacey atmospheres, while 'Out of Sight' and 'B. Blues' deliver hard-hitting blues-rock with catchy melodies. The album takes a nostalgic turn with 'Four Winds,' evoking the spirit of Oldfield's 70s era with its epic and enchanting soundscapes while 'Enigmatism' further demonstrates Oldfield's versatility with its floating and mysterious acoustic guitar melodies. 0verall, it remains an enchanting listening experience and one of Mike's best in the most recent half century of work. Guitars surprises with its audacious concept and ability to showcase Oldfield's continued innovation and musical identity.
