Description
Here is the provocatively-named Lou Raderman and his Pelham Heath Inn Orchestra, in 1928, doing two of the colossal song hits from the new Kern-Hammerstein musical, Show Boat: "Ol' Man River" and "Why Do I Love You?" Toe-tapping fox-trots with vocal refrains.
What makes this record exceptional is the prominent hot cornetist, soloing at length on both sides. He sounds uncannily like Bix Beiderbecke; at least it's very much in Bix's style. This mystery cornetist was a controversial subject in jazz circles for years. Turns out the solos actually were blown by the 20-year-old Manny Klein, who insisted till his death in 1994 that he was the culprit.
This Velvet-Tone 1607-V is in glossy E condition.
