INFO : Hailing from Adelaide the band were heavily influenced by the traditional roots-reggae sound and it was no real surprise to see them on tour in the 80’s with Peter Tosh from the Wailers. The astonishingly tight guitar work is a standout deserves mention.
Overall a refreshing take on Australia’s social and political concerns of that era delivered in an accomplished reggae-rock-folk style.
REVIEW … the first song here, ‘We Have Survived’, provides a strong and visceral clarion call to all those subjected to the colonial yoke and for underdogs everywhere. Drummer and singer Bart Willoughby's didgeridoo introduces the song with a low, earthy drone before the funky reggae-rock takes hold and transports the listener to a higher spiritual plain. The song is an anthem that needs to be heard. Meanwhile ‘Stupid System’ and ‘I Can't Stand And Look’ further relate the black man's story via the band's passionate songcraft. The EP finishes with ‘Pigs’, a defiant ode to a brutal constabulary. No Fixed Address are so much more than a pleasant surprise and this album ‘From My Eyes’ is a priceless mission statement.
**** Not an easy one to find these days and a highly recommended listen.
Note : All records (except where Mint) have been vacuum-machine cleaned and fully played on a quality system to determine an accurate grading.
While I endeavor to be as honest as possible with my condition appraisal the nature of vinyl is such that it is inevitable that a I will miss some form of background noise at some point … different Needles, Stylus's (depending on wear) and players will pick up some clicks, crackles and hiss so I can't guarantee total correctness once you play them.
*** Most records no matter how well they have been looked after will have some hairline marks which occur during the removal and re-inserting the vinyl from the inner sleeve. Generally speaking these surface scuffs have little or no impact on the audio-quality.
CONDITION :
VINYL : A brilliant piece that certainly has only been lightly played. No spindle traces or other marks. Awesome audio here that can't be faulted. Presents magnificently and rated a strong EX+ at the minimum.
LABELS : Clean as per photos above.
INNER SLEEVE : Band pic one side and lyrics on flip. Superb condition. No marks , splits or ring-wear and Rated EX+.
OUTER SLEEVE : Very minor ring-wear as per pics. Outside of that no concerns and Rated Excellent. No marks, writing or splits and the spine is solid. Overall I can’t see anyone being disappointed at all.
