RARE Original U.K. Island/TVT Records 45 pressing of Nine Inch Nails ‘Head Like A Hole (Slate)’ backed with ‘Head Like A Hole (Copper)’ (Catalogue Reference: Island/TVT Records IS-484/878 892-7).  This consists of a 45 with NIN picture labels stored inside a relatively thin and flimsy card sleeve.

CONDITION: EXCELLENT (VINYL) / EXCELLENT (SLEEVE)

I feel I’m being a little conservative with the grading here because it is immediately obvious that this copy hasn’t seen much play nor handling.  This is a fairly cheap pressing typical of U.K./European pressings of this period.  The first thing I note is that the record has been particularly poorly cut so while it is completely flat you certainly cannot say it is perfectly round!  Obviously, this will have no impact upon how the record plays.  Grading under an intense light there are a limited volume of hairline scratches present on both sides.  These marks are mainly concentrated near the very rim of the record and are characteristic of the vinyl moving around inside the card sleeve.  Needless to say the labels are immaculate and display no greasy fingerprints.  I would say the vinyl is a cautious EXCELLENT grade.  The sleeve is also in superior condition.  There is one tiny crease measuring approximately 5 millimetres near the opening edge of the sleeve which is a by-product of the sleeve being gripped while the vinyl is removed.  While there is a suggestion of ring-wear under an intense light it should be noted that this is the only crease.  Each of the corners displays a minimal amount of fraying however, they are quite straight and there are a couple of impressions in the soft cardboard on the front of the sleeve.  There is nothing else to say really.

FINAL COMMENT

A really superior copy of a rare item which is over 25 years old!  Please check my other auctions for a large selection of Folk, Pop, R n B, Rock and Soul collectables in similarly immaculate condition!  Save me as a favourite seller as there is plenty more where this came from!  Overseas buyers welcome!

ABOUT ME

I have been a collector for nearly 20 years now and regard myself as a conservative and realistic grader with all my items having been graded under an intense light.  I know from experience that there is nothing worse than buying an item which is described with superlatives only for it to arrive and look like it has been scrapped along the floor(!).  As a rule I don’t submit anything to auction which I wouldn’t be happy receiving myself.  Please take a look through my feedback as I’d like to think it speaks for itself.
