Nazareth Rampant LP METAL MASTER DISCS/PRESSING PLATES

Up for grabs is this pair of pressing plant metal master discs for the Nazareth album, Rampant. Rampant was produced by Roger Glover and originally released on vinyl in 1974. In 1985, the band's former manager, Jim White, reissued several LPs from their back catalogue on his own label, Sahara. By the time he had released Sound Elixir (Sahara SAH 130), the band had taken out a court injunction to get the albums withdrawn and halt any further releases. Rampant had been scheduled to be re-released as Sahara SAH 132 but, to my knowledge, this issue never saw the light of day (please do let me know if you know otherwise or have a finished copy of this release).

This pair of metal pressing plates are from this planned Sahara label release and are the negative impression stampers from which the finished vinyl albums would have been pressed. They are larger than a finished vinyl album, measuring 14" in diameter because of blank space round the outer rim, with one plate for each side of the album. As they contain the reverse (negative) impression of the album, they cannot be played on a normal record player; they are one stage back in the pressing process from the finished product (which, in this case, I don't think was ever made). All pressing and release details engraved on the plates are also negative impressions so appear in mirror image so that they would appear correctly on the finished vinyl.

The details for each plate are:
Side 1 run-out grooves: MPO SAH 132 A1 A PORKY PRIME CUT
Side 1 outer rim: SAH 132-A-1
Side 2 run-out grooves: MPO SAH 132 B1 PORKY
Side 2 outer rim: SAH 132-B-1

The discs are housed in a plain cardboard sleeve which has had various details, prices etc hand-written on it by various people over the years (see pic pelow).

Condition
The discs have no damage or scratches to the pressing surfaces, just a few specks and some fingerprints which could be cleaned off. I've made no attempt at cleaning them as I wouldn't know what to use!
