Description
NIRVANA - " THE STORY OF SIMON SIMOPATH ", Island Records Ltd. (ILP 959) MONO, 1967.
This is the ultra rare and seriously collectable, UK Psyche masterpiece from the pioneers of the genre, Nirvana. This is their debut LP released on Island Records in 1967 - being somewhat ahead of it's time, this LP only shifted small quantities on release but has since become recognised as a landmark of the genre and is now very sought after. It is an important chapter in both the band's career and the history of Island Records. For the purpose of this listing I shall assume that any serious bidders will know exactly what this LP sounds like (even if they haven't heard it as clearly as this before!!!).
This is a genuine 1967, UK, first pressing with the gatefold sleeve and the "Pink I" label. The only thing harder than finding this LP si finding it in as good a condition as this one!!!
CONDITION:
VINYL = EXCELLENT++ (PLAYS PERFECTLY! NO SCRATCHES visible in daylight or under my bright grading lamp. Under that lamp does show a couple of very faint scuffs from sliding the record in and out of the inner sleeve - these cannot be heard in any way during playback however. And unlike many contemporary records, this LP sound like it looks - NO intrusive surface noise, no clicks, crackles or distortion from over playing on a cheap system. If I was to be ultra critical I would have to say that there is very slight audible background noise during the silent run-in and during the silent sections between tracks but as soon as the music kicks in, this becomes inaudible. Has clearly been played rarely on quality phonographic equipment. Plays really STRONG as only a good original 1960's mono LP can!)
LABELS = EXCELLENT (Still have all their original colour - as strong a pink as I have ever seen on an old "pink I" label, with minimal spindle wear. The only thing to blight this particular copy is that the original owner, named W.J. Webb, has stamped their name on both sides of the LP. Although it's worth pointing out that this LP definitely doesn't sound like it's been dragged from party to party like so many others with the dreaded name stamps!))
SLEEVE = EXCELLENT- (Certainly not bad for it's age or scarcity - no rips, tears, water damage, etc. Sadly like the record label, both sides of the sleeve have been stamped - only a bit of the ink remains but I must point it out - see photos. The front is a bit creased and there is a bit of wear on the corners. Ultimately a good secondhand standard for it's age.)
Note: ebay quality control and in particular second hand record grading does seem to have become a highly variable area. I must assure any potential bidders that we are one of the larger secondhand record stores in the country and with decades of experience under our collective belts, we know how to grade records! Please take time to read my descriptions of condition as well as my basic grades. In theory we can send this LP anywhere to anyone for the right price - if you don't see the postal option you need please get in touch a.s.a.p.
