HARRY NILSSON – PANDEMONIUM SHADOW SHOW VINTAGE STEREO LP (RCA VICTOR LSP-3874)

Up for sale is a magnificent collector’s copy of Harry Nilsson’s landmark debut studio album, Pandemonium Shadow Show. This specific copy is an early orange label variant (1969) featuring the original rigid vinyl weight. It sits housed inside its original factory shrink wrap, preserving a truly beautiful, bright sleeve.

Released originally in December 1967, Pandemonium Shadow Show introduced the world to the generational genius of Harry Nilsson. It is the record that famously caused The Beatles' press manager, Derek Taylor, to buy a box of copies to share with the band. When asked at a 1968 press conference who their favorite American group or artist was, John Lennon and Paul McCartney simultaneously replied: "Nilsson."
Produced by the legendary Rick Jarrard and arranged by George Tipton, the album was tracked at RCA Victor's legendary Music Center of the World Studios in Hollywood, California. The album stands as a baroque pop masterpiece, showcasing Nilsson's incredible three-and-a-half-octave vocal range, intricate multi-tracked self-harmonies, and vaudevillian sensibilities.Includes his legendary Beatles medley "You Can't Do That", which seamlessly weaves references to over a dozen Fab Four tracks.

CONDITION DETAILS Vinyl Disc: Near Mint (NM). The wax is exceptionally clean with a mirror-like gloss. It shows virtually no signs of play, handling, or hairline scuffs. An elite player or archive copy. Plays through very warm, clean with wide dynamics and all that lovely, late 60's analog plate reverb.  Just a beautifully playing copy.
Jacket Sleeve: Excellent (EX). Fully intact in its original factory shrink wrap. The colors are incredibly vibrant, the spine is sharp and crisp, and the corners are nicely preserved. There is no ring wear, split seams, or edge scuffs. Original paper inner sleeve is included and fully intact.

MATRIX & PRESSING DETAILS (ROCKAWAY FIRST-PRESS STAMPERS) What makes this specific copy remarkably unique to audiophiles is that it was struck using the original 1967 first-pressing master lacquers at RCA’s renowned Rockaway, New Jersey plant. You get the superior sonic performance of the absolute earliest mix cuts on a stunningly clean piece of late-1960s vinyl.

  • Side 1 Matrix: UPRS-5580-15S (Stamped) | A-1B (Etched)
  • Side 2 Matrix: Corresponding 15S Rockaway markings with A-1A (Etched)
Label Variation: Early orange rigid label variant (Circa 1969-1970). Features the bold, white vertical "RCA" text block to the left, thin "Victor" typography to the right, and "Side 2 Stereo" positioned at the top right. It completely lacks the later "Dynaflex" branding, indicating a standard-weight, thick vintage vinyl pour.
