Description

Hello friends. Brian from NIGHT BIRDS here. Last year my little cousin Natalie was diagnosed with Leukemia. Natalie is on the road to recovery, and doing very well! I'm kept very in the loop with whats going on, and it's a pretty heart breaking thing to watch anyone go through, especially family. While I feel like I would want to curl up in a ball in the corner and hate everyone / everything around me for having to endure watching my little girl go through what Natalie is going through, they have done the exact opposite. In the past year Natalie's parents have become VERY active in raising money for a clinical trial to try and find less painful/dangerous ways to treat children with cancer. They created this webpage (which I highly urge you to read) : http://www.willyousendusadollar.com/

NIGHT BIRDS are auctioning off a test press copy of our new album, "BORN TO DIE IN SUBURBIA" (whoops, sorry for the fairly bleak title under these circumstances!)... This is in mint condition, and most of these were kept for ourselves or given out to friends who helped our band out. All of the proceeds from this sale will go to the cause above. While it might not be a ton of money, we still wanted to try and find a small way to help out.

Thanks for reading, thanks for bidding, fuck cancer...
XO,
BRIAN + NIGHT BIRDS

About This Cause

Hi, it's 3-year-old Natalie Grace here hoping that you'll take a few moments to check this page out and send me $1.00 (less then the cost of your morning coffee : ).

On August 16, 2012 I was diagnosed with high-risk Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). It's been a difficult year for my family and I, but I'm happy to report that I am in the maintenance phase of my treatment, doing very well, and have an expected cancer-free date of November 2014 (YIPPPPEEEE)!

But this donation page isn't about me (alone), it's about and for all the children around the globe fighting this awful disease! My third birthday was ruined due to how I was feeling from my treatment, so my mom and I have decided that my fourth birthday needs to be VERY special, and that's where you all come in! We want to raise 50K by my fourth birthday (9.28.13) for pediatric cancer research (100% of all monies raised goes to the "Dream Team" of oncologists via TheTruth365.org)!

We started this fundraiser back on April 23rd with the simple request of asking my FaceBook followers to please send us a single dollar, and of course to spread the message far and wide. Well, it's only been two months and I'm happy to report that we've raised almost 18K (that’s why our goal only shows needing 32K rather then 50K)!! That's AMAZING, but we still have a long way to go, and the letters being sent to our P.O. box are quickly dwindling...that's why we decided to start this page. So please, I know making it to 50K by the end of September is a bit of a stretch, but with your help I truly in my heart of hearts KNOW that we can do it!

Let me briefly explain to you all as to why raising this money is so VERY important.

My family and I were SHOCKED to discover (two months into my treatment) that pediatric cancer research is incredibly underfunded. In fact, The National Cancer Institute (NCI) only allocates 4% of it's funding to pediatric research, and the American Cancer + Leukemia Lymphoma Societies are just as bad giving even less then that (majority of all funding goes to adult cancers)!

Pediatric cancer has become an epidemic. Did you know that it is the leading cause of death by disease in children + adolescents in the USA? Or that in 20 years the FDA has only initially approved one drug for any childhood cancer (in a nutshell, our kids are given hand-me-down treatments meant for adults)? Incidence of invasive pediatric cancers is up 29% in the past 20 years, yet funding for pediatric cancer is down! Seven children, this day and EVERY day, will lose their battle to cancer earning their "angel wings" (and this is in the US alone). Well, my mom and I think that seven children a day is too many and that the number needs to change to ZERO!!

But will this 50K really result in a cure for cancer? Probably not, but it's a much needed step, and what it CAN do is help researchers come up with less painful/dangerous ways to treat us kids. It can fund a clinical trial which could result in saving a child's life...literally! Right now there is an oncologist somewhere telling a child's parents that they are at the end of their road with no light ahead...that they need to prepare themselves and begin their goodbye's. Clinical trials can change this conversation, it can give these kids a second chance! And naturally, down the road these trials might just be the piece of the puzzle researchers are so desperate to find…the one that could lead them to a cure. Will it be tomorrow? Likely not, but as I said, it's a step in the right direction so PLEASE, find it in your heart to help! Imagine if just a tiny fraction of the world's population were to send us a dollar...just imagine what we could raise for research to help children all around the world!!!

THANK YOU so much everyone for your support!!

Love,
Natalie Grace
