And it's a Pink Moon.
This is the first US issue of Nick Drake's last album, issued confidently by Island Records with a gatefold sleeve, custom painting and lyrics printed within, and it just vanished upon release here. But music like this never really gets lost, even if the worst happens and we lose the artist himself.
He was at his most mysterious and beautiful here. Many of us are very sorry he's gone, but grateful for this piece of vinyl in particular.
The vinyl in this case is NM-, the minus sign coming from two minor abrasions: an inaudible mark on cut 1 side 1, and a slight surface noise on cut 4 side 1. I listened on Stax headphones carefully and that's what they revealed (they're very revealing--you may not hear any issue at all). As you see, there's also a stamp from Rasputin Records on one of the labels; that store, on Telegraph Avenue in Berkeley, is where I bought this in 1977. It's meant a lot to me and I hope it'll mean a lot to you as well.
The sleeve is as you see it in the photos: some people might call it NM- but it's not quite there.
