We use the following, “Goldmine” based, Record Collector grading system to describe the condition of our stock. Vinyls are visually inspected under very bright lighting. If in any doubt or if you need more information just ask.

Grading Guide

STILL SEALED (SS)

Brand New and never opened. Flawless, with no damage whatsoever

MINT (M)

Must be in perfect condition with no audible or visible defects whatsoever. The record and cover/sleeve should be exactly as brand new.

NEAR MINT (NM)

Almost mint but has one or two minor visible marks on the cover/sleeve or surface with sound quality remaining perfect. 

EXCELLENT (EX)

The cover/sleeve may show minimal signs of normal wear. Vinyl: May have scuff marks and signs of some wear but will still play almost perfectly throughout, with only a slight chance of minor deterioration in sound quality. Definitely no scratches or gouges that a touch with a dry finger can feel.

VERY GOOD PLUS (VG+)

The majority of saleable albums fall under this grade. The surface and cover/sleeve shows visible signs of wear due to the fact that it has been played on a regular basis. There will be some audible surface noise such as crackling and popping but it will not affect the listening experience. Cover: Normal used cover wear such as ring wear, turned up corners and split seams. If there is abnormal damage such as tears or markings, the damage will be described in comments attached to the item.

VERY GOOD (VG)

"Vinyl: Groove wear and scratches (deep enough to feel with a fingernail) will start to be noticeable and will affect the sound.  May have continuous low level crackles, pops, etc. Cover: More than normal wear and tear. May be marred by writing, tape or stickers (or their residue) attached.

GOOD (G)

The sound quality has deteriorated due to having been played often. It will have significant surface noise and scratches and visible groove wear. The cover/sleeve will show considerable signs of wear and tear especially at the bottom or on the spine. Tape, writing, ring wear or other defects will start to overwhelm the object.

FAIR (F)

Has been neglected, but is still playable. There will be major audible defects such as loud clicks or jumping. The cover/sleeve may be badly damaged.

POOR (P)

Technically playable, but with serious deterioration in condition and sound quality. The cover/sleeve will be badly damaged. Would only be used as a last resort to complete a collection.
