  "Journey Through The Past"
        A Film By  Neil Young             ..|/\|...............................................|/\|..                            USA - 2XS 6480 - REPRISE RECORDS

STILL FACTORY SEALED ~ 47 years ago DOUBLE LP in gatefold, never opened and brand new despite being put on a top shelf and left alone for soon to be 50 years.

Interesting soundtrack album to a lost film most have never seen. Worth owning for the Buffalo Springfield, CSNY, and Neil Young rarities.

Journey Through the Past is a 1972 release, coming out right after "HARVEST." After some 47 years many people still think this is just a compilation LP , BUT< it's much more than just that! The songs are actually taken from T.V. studio appearance, live recordings, outtakess (so mostly rare stuff here) and then there are the songs that have nothing to do with Neil Young (basically side four, with the exception of the unreleased "Solider" you get nowhere else and maybe "Relativity Invitation"). The album contains songs by Buffalo Springfield, Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, and the Stray Gators (so mostly bands that Neil Young was a member of). Also included were artists that don't involve Young like the unknown female chorus (singing "Let Me Call You Sweetheart"), the Beach Boys (yes, the actual Beach Boys). The Beach Boys end the album with their instrumental track, "Let's Go Away for Awhile," from Pet Sounds. Overall, its kind of an avant-garde LP when as a Neil Young album.
Highlights for key tracks are "Words" (a haunting, lengthy SIDE-LONG jam from the Harvest session), "Alabama," (outtake from Harvest) "Southern Man," (a live cover by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young) "Ohio," (another live track by Crosby, Stills Nash & Young from the same concert as "Southern Man") and "Solider" (the "rare" unheard song till that time, and the only place where one would be able to find it in it's complete entirety). The album is actually more of an anthology than a soundtrack as was intended when first released in '72. Recommended for true Neil Young fan (it's kinda heavy stuff.)
